I have a problem.

I can't stop listening to The National's "High Violet."

It should be illegal to enjoy an album this much.

In a Clapton mood yet again up here in the soggy Pacific NW.

"Mean Old Frisco" off of "Slowhand"

Man. I have tried to find the ART in this. Personally, never been a huge fan of Metallica's popular work. Loved the Load/Reload cds...the symphony cd...the Garage Days...and on this, they are exempt. If you listen to the massive effort to do the heavy lifting, I exonerate them. But Lou Reed's atonal old man monotone rap over what could have been good just kills this. It is better if you listen to the whole thing as a complete package, it is not a 'let's drop the needle down' kind of thing...still, it just wears on you instead of actually making you buy into the idea. I applaud the idea. just not the execution.

When I first read about Lou Reed and Metallica teaming up, lol, I thought that it was a joke.

Well, if anything, it might open up the possibility of having Bob Dylan team up with Cannibal Corpse. ;)

Sorry, but watching the Eddie Trunk interview with Axl really made me appreciate just how special this band was. Axl is kind of like the Frankenstein of rock. Hated, yet you cannot deny just how amazing his mere existence is. Maybe that's a little pompous...but I HAVE been drinking.

Was he talented at one time? Sure. But amazing? Ummmm, not even close IMO. And for my money, the only album that they made that stands the test of time from track 1 to track 12 - Appetite. Illusion was overindulgent. They had maybe one full LP side worth of good material there - like 5 good tracks that might have made Appetite. And don't even get me started on November Rain. But hey, this is the wrong thread to debate the merits and drawbacks of GnR. Sorry!

I've got this on. The 1998 reissue.
