I am listening to this collection of hits from the UK's great hitmakers, Throbbing Gristle. :D

It has enough Calcium to get you through your hectic day.

I have a question has Lanegan ever fronted an album that has been consistent from beginning to end? I mean I always thought consistency is what prevented Mudhoney from being as big as other grunge bands.

I absolutely love that album, but this is is best work IMO:

It's just an 8-song EP, but man, what songs. Here are a couple:

A big disappointment - Alain Johannes really ****ed this album up.

Lanegan may have the dirtiest rock voice ever, filtered through layers of whiskey, cigarettes and heroin gravel. He needs a harder, more spacious sound for the mood to resonate - its his strength. This album is filled to the gills with 90's Stan Ridgway-type electronics, layer upon layer of unnecessary tweaks and overly repetitive and overly familar lines.

This is a b-side that didn't make the lp, and it just blows away any of the tracks that did make it:

I just got this. I loved Bubblegum and his work with QOTSA. What I have listened to so far...I like. Going to live with it for a day or two and I will either confirm or deny your complaints.

Wasn't Lanegan in Screaming Trees?

There we go! It's good to have you peeps straighten my alcohol damaged memories. :chums:

Yeah, he was, and I think I listened to a release from the Mark Lanegan band and in my mind filed it under "band with that guy who was in that grunge band that wasn't one of the big 4 in terms of sales and popularity." I just forgot which one and mixed up Screaming Trees and Mudhoney. mhihi:

Screaming Trees were my jam in high school Invisible Lantern and Even if and Especially When were in heavy rotation in the smoke-filled Dodge Caravan I "borrowed" from my folks long before the Trees were the first grunge band to sign with a major label. But they hated each other, and constantly fought on stage. The Conner brothers must have weighed 700 lbs combined, and Lanegan was no looker either. Plus he was a major heroin user. If they didn't get a song on The Singles soundtrack ain't no way in hell would MTV have aired anything by that mess of a band. But they absolutely kicked ass

Yup. Upon further listening you nailed it kid. The music has too much depth, is overly busy and, dare I say, upbeat to suit Lanegan's throaty/lived-in voice. Funny though, I was listening at work and my coworker(who's tastes skew a little more towards Santana and whatever his daughter introduces him to) was kinda digging it and kept asking me what the names of the songs were. So, maybe it's our familiarity that leaves us cold. I don't have any Screaming Trees, I was introduced to Lanegan from his work with QOTSA...where's a good place to start if I wanted to check out some Trees?

Oh man. Awesome. It's the ghost of Freddie Mercury reborn. From the name on down this is just such a '70's throwback. Beauty!

it almost pains me to type this but I'm listening to LMFAO Party Rock Anthem...
