I can see why they had to fudge with the story when they made this into a tv show. There no way it would have made it past a pilot if they just filmed a bunch of physicists sitting around discussing theories and principles. The whole "murder mystery" aspect totally took a back seat to theories about immutable futures, quantum mechanics, and stuff nightmares are made of called the Pauli exclusion principle.
I still enjoyed the book, however at times the science was very heavy and tiring to the point where I was just skimming over some parts.

My parents bought me that box set of PKD books where it's 3 actual bound books, but with 3 or 4 novels in each book. All from different periods of his work. The Man In The High Castle is the first novel in the first book. It's also the only PKD work I read while I was originally in school. I wanted to read it again, though, because I barely remembered any of it.
It takes place on an alternate earth where the Axis won WWII and America has basically been split between the Germans, Italians and the Japanese. It's a very strange book, and not at all like I'd expected, even though I had read it a decade or so ago. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I feel like I'm missing something. Like there was some underlying message/idea that didn't quite get across.
All in all, a good book, but not my favorite PKD work. I will now commence reading the next novel in the book, the Three Stigmata Of Palmer Eldritch.

just finished book 2 of Joe Abercrombie's "First Law" trilogy "Before They Are Hanged"... which must say for his 2nd book (much better than the first) was pretty damn good and i really want the 3rd book now
jumping back to george r. r. martin's "A Storm of Swords" now
Just finished the Blade Within based on the recommendation....very enjoyable read. Im not into fantasy type books at all but this was a fun read for sure.

the 2nd book is much better in my opinion. you can really tell a difference in the way he writes since the blade itself was his first book. but i love Glokta i must have laughed for 20 minutes on the "if he's an apprentice, im the king of gurkul" part in the first book

Continuation of a series that started with Retribution Falls. That was a great book; very much like Firefly.
I just started the 3rd book last night....god bless the local library and speaks volumes about this series. Im not intro fantasy/adventure books at all but this series is a very fun read.

i actually just picked up the 3rd book thanks to a 40% off coupon from borders... got about 300 pages left in george martin's "storm of swords" then im gonna read 2 short books (The Last Wish & Blood of Elves by Andrzej Sapkowski about The Witcher) then hop on The Last Argument to close the series then ill probably read "Best Served Cold" as well which is in the same universe as The First Law trilogy but its a stand alone book

I cannot recommend the Malazan Books of the Fallen series highly enough. The best series I have read in the last 10 years.

I have all the books that are out now...House of Chains has been a tough one to get through, I bought it and started it when it first came out...lol. Took a couple of years off but figured I better finish it as I have all the rest to get to. The first 3 were great.
