I?m so bored, aren?t the Kings two months away from training camp? Im over the off-season.
Except that the D played great without him. By that logic we should have had brutal defense since so much relies on Doughty. We need stronger second pair D imo. We may already have them but likely we will need to bring someone in (or have a yet untested prospect surprise us.) I’m simply stating the need for a top pair d was not nearly the same need as offensive help.
Kadri to Calgary 7 x 7. They could be very interesting next season, assuming the main new additions recapture last season's level of play.
Our D was good, relatively. In absolute sense they weren't good enough. The main problem was the support for the offensive game, breakouts...and in the sense of being competitive in the playoffs there would have to be some pretty damn significant strides made by at least one of the kids. Edler played a significant part in the D being stable and dependable, with smart plays...he's now 1 year older and came back from a significant injury. He's a veteran leader but not someone to be dependent on.
And I'm not trying to say Durzi or Spence will never be better. I'm simply saying that if we want to speed up the process of building a good playoff team we need to upgrade the defense, not the offense, since many of the Kings' offensive struggles stem from lack of offensive prowess on defense which was pretty glaring after DD went down.
So - I would be fine with riding it out with the kids on D to see if someone has a breakout season, or maybe if Clarke miraculously proves NHL ready...it's just that IMO if Blake wants to speed up the process NOW he would have to invest in defense rather than offense. And it would be sensible to invest into a LHD if we want to avoid stonewalling Clarke's induction to the team.
I'd like to touch on this because i mostly agree. Our D is "good", but it is not "great". I don't think they are bad at breaking the puck out of our zone, per se... they do a great job of getting the puck up and out to the forwards, but we don't have a guy that is likely to skate the puck out and lead the attack in those instances. But more importantly, we don't generate enough goals from the backend, and it risks making the team a bit one dimensional. Opponents can afford to play off the defense because they know we don't have a dangerous shot from the point.
One thing I'd like to point out to this point. A side benefit/consequence of opponents collapsing back wingers since they didn't fear either 1) the speed at which the puck moved to the point and back in on net, or 2) the overall ability for our point shots to beat a goaltender from distance. Is that our younger D have become very adept at sneaking in the backside and down low to help create oddman chances or help retrieval of the puck. Admittedly there's the potential for outnumbered chances the other way but if you think back at how many times you were surprised to see Mikey/Toby/Durzi or even Moverare down low in the zone its far more than before. I do think that Yawney is emphasizing this off of a read where the winger has collapsed low and has to move back high when the puck moves out that way (offside/backside particularly) creating just that bit of separation when the D activates. There's always something to be said for that heavy shot from the point that is going to create uncertainty but growing this ability to have 5 man in unit attacks is going to be a key point of emphasis for growing the production of this D as it is currently assembled.

My in depth 2022 off season report:
I'm bored.
I moved from LA to Oregon in 2017. I moved from Oregon to South Carolina in May of this year. Finally mostly settled in a new house. Moved with 6 cats over 6 days in the car. Stayed with dad for a month. It's hot. Bugs are huge. Not quite looking forward to having to start games at 10:30pm. BUT - the one good thing is I can see one Kings game a year at the Hurricanes stadium. Maybe I'll even watch them and become some poser Hurricanes/Panthers fan.. Jk. Dirty thoughts.

That is my biggest concern about moving to the East Coast the 10:39 start. I would most likely have to record and watch in the morning or next night. I can't imagine staying up past 1:00am and seeing them lose. I was thinking about moving to Lake Norman in North Carolina, however, how am I going to watch the Kings while they are at home? Good luck to you in SC.
I do not believe Kadri will repeat his performance as he did with Colorado. Different type of play in Calgary.
Before with NHL.com and the streaming thing it was easy to watch the next day, I did that a lot on the west coast. Now the streaming makes no sense to me unless you use one of the illegal sites and I don't know how great those are with watching the next day. I guess I'll find out, lol. And thanks! We're right by Lake Murray in SC. West coast prices drove my ass out!

Six cats???
Lol yes. They were surprisingly good. The hotel nights were stressful. Mostly covering all the holes in the walls in shady joints that accepted our uhh, 2 cats.
