2026 World Cup Thread

Moog, my guy, you're fired up. Good. I get it. Last week I met the IT guy out to fix my computer (i'm still remote-brag) and shared that John Oliver shows give me nightmares. Every. Single. One. We sat in silence for about two minutes.

If there is any comfort in this, some of my favorite day drinking memories are watching the World Cup at a bar/pub. Either with strangers or friends, it's a good vibe. So, they can't take that from us, right?

Oh dang, do I know why the caged bird sings? eff.

of course one might argue the higher the ratings the more tv money and the more Fifa doesn't give a s****. I'm in line for the Rugby World Cup in 2031...

LoL good luck to sell those tickets even for half prices

Playoffs could be completely different story
Spain, Argentina or Mexico might play at Sofi stadium
USA -Argentina I can only imagine what potentially price is going to be
I mean, if you want to get dark with it and you know that I do*. There could be another global pandemic and FIFA would have to fill the stadiums with cardboard cutouts of fans.

*Noah Hawley may base his next "Fargo" villain on me. I'm sure it will be flattering.

Aside: Legion and Fargo are written/directed by Noah. *mind blown* this makes SOOOO much sense.

The road to 2026 is building towards something historic, and our most dedicated fans are vital to that journey. Your commitment as a Premium Insider helps define the spirit of U.S. Soccer, and we’re excited to share how you can be part of the World Cup experience here at home.

At the FIFA World Cup Final Draw, the U.S. Men’s National Team was placed into Group D along with Paraguay, Australia and the winner of UEFA Playoff C—either Kosovo, Romania, Slovakia or Türkiye.

U.S. Soccer will receive a limited fan ticket allotment for each U.S. Men’s National Team match. Quantities will vary by venue, and demand is expected to significantly exceed supply.

In partnership with FIFA, U.S. Soccer will conduct two weighted ticket draws exclusively for Insiders—one for Standard Insiders, and one for Premium through Keepers tiers. These draws are designed to recognize and reward fans whose commitment enables U.S. Soccer to remain in service to the game.

In early January, eligible Insiders will receive FIFA Participating Member Association (PMA) access codes to apply for tickets. Applications will remain open until January 13, at which point Insider tiers will be locked for the draw.

Upgrade to VIP today for $185/year to receive two additional entries to the Premium—Keepers ticket draw.
Got this from US Soccer today. $185/year for two entries that probably won't get picked anyway. yeesh

First off....of all people this guy. You know if he was still running the show it would be unicorns and rainbows about attending the World Cup in the US&A

Secondly.....why we worried? FIFA gave out the peace prize. US&A is the most peaceful of the peace....right?

Some European nations are seriously considering a boycott of the World Cup. Given the current conditions here in the USA, I think this is a very real and justifiable position. Hope it doesn’t happen, but still…

Agreed. It is a justifiable position for sure for MANY reasons.

However they won't do it.

The World Cup is just that massive.

That may be exactly why they choose to do it. Can't blame them if they do with NATO under attack. Sure hope they don't.
I don't know if you are being sarcastic or serious. I think I get where you are going with this......but.....

Politicians and heads of various country football associations in Europe are "talking" about boycotting the World Cup.

However they know fully well that if they boycotted the World Cup, their citizens would lose their minds.

Could you imagine if say the Netherlands and maybe Germany boycotted....meanwhile everyone else in EUEFA, CONMEBOL, AFC, CONCACAF, et al go to the World Cup.?!?!?! The citizens of the few countries that boycotted would be in the streets!

Now, if ALL countries in EUEFA boycotted, that would be entirely different. Good luck with that.
Won't happen. FIFA is too big, too corrupt, to powerful.

I'll say again, the World Cup is just that massive.

...not to mention that the current leadership in the US&A is literally kidnapping heads of states, threatening allies to take their territory....oh and so much more........Do you think they would even bat an eyelash if some teams did not show up for the World Cup? They don't even watch football. They couldn't care less what the rest of the world thinks.

but it might make prices a little cheaper for me.

I kid, I kid. No one's going to really boycott the world cup unless we get into a full blown war with NATO.

I had heard about $250 parking a mile from sofi being on sale, but thought that might have just been some local trying to rip off folks before actual parking near the stadium goes on sale. But then again, Fifa.

Also, will it just be cheaper to travel around the country and catch some olympic soccer games, since you know LA28 will be played all over...

Okay yes semi final and final at the rose bowl, but would be nice to you know, see a USA game..

Edit: I dont' know why image isn't working, but they announced soccer venues for LA28 olympics will be in New York, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, San Jose and San Diego.

......well as we all know from the Paris Summer games......surfing in "France" was EPIC!!!!!

...but seriously San Diego for matches...sure
San Jose....getting a bit more outside LA, no?
St Louis? Nashville?? Columbus???? NEW YORK?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Couldn't put matches in Vegas or Phoenix?

Welp, they are not wrong but..it's NOT Iran v. New Zealand. Not being a contrarian a hole but now I am kind of excited to see how Iran reacts to the "Haka" (as a Rugby guy--this should be familiar) it seems this advertising may have backfired.

Inglewood has spent the last 10 years growing and changing as depicted on "Insecure" (HBO), getting a hotel or airbnb may be the move. Depending if you are going with your boyz or the family, either way-it works-then grab an e-scooter and glide over. Suck it, parking fees! =)

Aside: "Insecure" is a literal love letter to Los Angeles, it makes our city look so pretty and diverse. I know a lot of you guys would not watch it but...it may be worth your time. And, my last thought on the show: Nathan was Issa's hottest boyfriend. F. U. Lawrence hive!=)

*Haka have been traditionally performed by both men and women for a variety of social functions within Māori culture.

OCSC.....whoa there...I know you are OC, but seriously get a new marketing department.

Wrong match to make claims about (which I think you are trying to do) abysmal match and high parking rates. Wrong wrong wrong!

Disclaimer: Post maker is not Iranian/Persian - Just a SoCal peep who knows the melting pot.

If OCSC stepped out of OC for a bit, they would know that over 50% of the countries Iranian population is in "LA". It's over half a million people! FIFA is not dumb, it's why they put Iran games in LA. They know their market.

OCSC, perhaps you should know your market, or at least your adjacent market.

Now are the parking rates absurd? Sure, but to say Iran v NZ is not going to be a popular match and parking is too expensive for it is just plain dumb.

(NZ transplants.....yea, sorry bout the parking and not being able to get tix at a good price)

Whoa whoa, do we need to start a Six Nations thread too?! (LFG)

*laughing* If that's the thread you want to start, go for it. But much like tennis, I've seen rugby games on TV but still have no idea about the rules, who's actually good or how things are scored. Just a carbon based lifeform with a thigh kink. And those Rugby kats are THICK af.
