All Things:AMC television

Just caught up on The Walking Dead. TV Show and comics.

My soul needs a shower. Badly.

Barf barf barf barf....

Does anybody actually ENJOY this show or is it more something you endure out of morbid curiosity? I know for me it's the latter. This franchise has given me nightmares. I'm all honked up over it. Maybe I shouldn't have watched 2 seasons and read over 100 issues of the comic in under a week....

I 'endured' the second season of the show...just because it was disjointed and stoppy/starty. But I read the first few years of the comics and am all caught up on the show, and yeah...it's tense at times but to anyone who frequently watches horror(which I know you don't) it's actually pretty light/tame. I could recommend stuff that would really curl your toes Doc. Just lemme know when you are ready.

It's not the gore I mind or the "scares"... it's the never ending emotional torture. I think it doesn't bother me in movies because I know I'm just in for a 90 minute spree of potential death for every character but when I get invested in a show or comic I'm not anticipating that any and all characters could wind up dead (sometimes in really really really really really really really cruel horrible ways) at any minute.

WALKING DEAD Infographic Lists Zombie Kills from All Three Seasons | Collider

Pretty cool, too big/wide to embed successfully. Check it out.

And why do people care about the Zombie kills? The zombies are the the least compelling aspect of this show/comic. **** the zombies. They might as well be giant radioactive ants or talking dogs.

?Hell on Wheels? Season 3 Is Back on Track | CraveOnline

Back in October, AMC renewed ?Hell on Wheels? for a third season while announcing the departure of series creators Joe and Tony Gayton. However, the network quickly halted the third season order when ?Hell on Wheels? showrunner John Shiban also left the series.

While the renewal of the series was contingent upon finding a new showrunner, ?Hell on Wheels? is once again set for a third season according to Deadline. Veteran TV producer, John Wirth will be the new showrunner for season three once he finishes up his stint as a consultant on the upcoming third season of TNT?s ?Falling Skies.?

Wirth previously served as the showrunner of NBC?s ?The Cape? and co-showrunner of ?Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.? Wirth?s other TV credits include ?The District,? ?Ghost Whisperer,? ?Nash Bridges? and ?The Adventures of Brisco County Jr.;? which was also a western series (with some sci-fi elements) starring Bruce Campbell in the title role.

In a statement to Deadline, AMC?s Senior Vice President of Scripted Development, Susie Fitzgerald said ?As we gear up for season three of ?Hell On Wheels? we are pleased to have such an accomplished showrunner as John Wirth join our team. With the help of our partners at Entertainment One, Endemol and Nomadic, we look forward to a new season of the poetic and pulpy adventures of Cullen Bohannan and the other characters as they build the railroad across the US.?

A start date for ?Hell on Wheels? season three has not yet been set, but the series is likely to return to AMC in 2013.

Alrighty then.

No More Loud TV Commercials: CALM Law Takes Effect - Deadline.com

THANK CHRIST...oh sorry, I was shouting over a commercial. No network is MORE guilty than AMC. So many times I had to turn the volume up to max on Breaking Bad, and as soon as the commercials started...speaker flare. **** you commercials!

Wait, there's an actual law to prevent television networks from annoying the crap out of us? Can they pass another one to ban networks from having shows end at 9:59 or 10:01 to make it so people with DVRs can only record the same network in the preceding or following timeslot?

Like you're not going to watch it. :P

Yeah, probably not. I do not want to ruin season 3 by reliving the really disappointing second season. And if I want to rewatch s1 I will netflix. I'm not sold on the retro b&w. It has a weird tinge and it doesn't look like old tv, it just looks absent of color.

Did you dig Darabont's The Mist with the B&W? I thought you did? Maybe I'm misremembering.

AMC Gives Series Order to LOW WINTER SUN | Collider

Hot on the heels of the news that AMC is resurrecting the previously-cancelled series The Killing for a third season comes word that the network has made a commitment to a new series for the upcoming season. Per THR, AMC has ordered 10 hourlong episodes of the drama Low Winter Sun. Based on the 2006 British miniseries of the same name, the series is described as “a contemporary story of murder, deception, revenge, and corruption in a world where the line between cops and criminals is blurred.” Mark Strong, who also starred in the British miniseries, fronts the AMC show alongside Lennie James. The show will be run by executive producer Chris Mundy.

Mark Strong & Lennie James...sign me up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TV Bits: American Horror Story, 30 Rock, Californication, The Killing, Hannibal, Doctor Who, Masters of Sex | /Film

Billy Campbell played an important part in the first two seasons of The Killing and probably thought he job was done once that show was cancelled. It has, of course, been resurrected though and Variety reports the actor will not be returning for the third season.

That's a real shame. He was very good on the first 2 seasons and I really thought he had a lot of story left in him.

Q&A - Anson Mount (Cullen Bohannon) - Hell on Wheels - AMC

Q: Hell on Wheels was picked up for a third season and got a new executive producer, John Wirth. Congrats! What's been your reaction?

A: I'm very excited about it. From what I understand, he's a hell of a leader and a hell of guy. We were emailing yesterday about our favorite bands, and I was like, "Oh, okay, we're going to like each other."

Q: What excites you the most about returning to the show?

A: First of all, I just love this job. It's my favorite job that I've had as a professional actor. I love getting paid to ride a horse. I love the amount of input that I get to have. And I'm excited to see, after the utter devastation at the end of Season 2, I'm interested to see where we start Cullen Bohannon. Everybody keeps asking me, "What's going to happen?" And I honestly don't know! [Laughs]

I honestly rank this show among my top 5 faves...somewhere amongst SOA/Breaking Bad/etc. And I will continue to profess my love for it till you nice folks start watching. Start w/Season 1 on Netflix. Telling you...you will dig it.

THE WALKING DEAD Renewed for Season 4; Showrunner Glen Mazzara Exits the Series | Collider

AMC is getting really good at dicking around the showrunners of their most popular and creatively beloved shows. The network?s frequent headbutting with Mad Men creator/showrunner Matthew Weiner is no secret, and they edged out The Walking Dead creator/showrunner Frank Darabont halfway through the hit zombie series? second season. Now, in a shocking move on the heels of a season four renewal, current The Walking Dead showrunner Glen Mazzara has announced that he?s leaving the show over a ?difference of opinion? with the network.
Here?s the full announcement from AMC and Mazzara:

Today, AMC announces the season 4 pick-up of The Walking Dead.

AMC also jointly announces with Glen Mazzara today that for future seasons, the two parties have mutually decided to part ways. Glen guided the series creatively for seasons 2 and 3. AMC is grateful for his hard work. We are both proud of our shared success.

Both parties acknowledge that there is a difference of opinion about where the show should go moving forward, and conclude that it is best to part ways. This decision is amicable and Glen will remain on for post-production on season 3B as showrunner and executive producer.

Frankly, this is surprising news. Since Mazzara took over the reins of the show from Darabont, the series has seen a crazy increase in viewership and critical acclaim. Not only is it breaking ratings for cable television, it?s regularly beating everything on network TV as well. Season three is generally considered the best installment of the show thus far, and a large part of that is thanks to Mazzara?s involvement as showrunner alongside comics creator/executive producer Robert Kirkman.

I don?t know what, specifically, Mazzara and AMC disagreed on, but this is getting ridiculous. The official statement makes clear that Mazzara isn?t moving on out of a disinterest with the show, but over a difference of opinion with the network. What?s next, AMC tells Vince Gilligan to turn Breaking Bad into a buddy comedy in order to extend the series? run past the upcoming final season?

There?s no word on who will be stepping in to replace Mazzara as showrunner, but I feel like Kirkman is the guy for the job. He?s been with the series from the beginning and has acted as both an executive producer and writer on the show, so The Walking Dead would most assuredly be in good hands if he stepped in. Seriously, though, AMC has got to stop messing with their successes.

Here are individual statements from Mazzara, Kirkman, and producer Gale Anne Hurd:

My time as showrunner on The Walking Dead has been an amazing experience, but after I finish season 3, it?s time to move on. I have told the stories I wanted to tell and connected with our fans on a level that I never imagined. It doesn?t get much better than that. Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey. ? Glen Mazzara

I am in full support of both AMC and Glen Mazzara in the decision they have come to and believe the parties came to this decision in the best interest of the future of the show. I thank Glen for his hard work and appreciate his many contributions to The Walking Dead and look forward to working with him as we complete post production on Season 3. I am also excited to begin work on another spectacular season of this show that I know means so much to so many people. This show has always been the result of a wide range of extremely talented men and women working tirelessly to produce their best work collectively. I believe the future is bright for The Walking Dead. Thank you to the fans for your continued support. ? Robert Kirkman

I am appreciative and grateful to Glen for his hard work on ?The Walking Dead.? I am supportive of AMC and Glen?s decision and know that the series is in great hands with one of the most talented and dedicated casts and crews in the business. I look forward to the show?s continued success. ? Gale Anne Hurd
