THE AMERICANS Season 1 Episode 2 Recap | Collider
And that's about it. I think it's the fact that, so far, the characters are only identifiable as 'the husband' or 'the wife'. It's hard to FEEL anything for either of them despite a lot of (awkward) attempts to humanize them. The husband has so far been the one closest to actually resembling a human being. Keri Russel has a LOT of work to do. Even the scenes with her daughter were almost painfully alien attempts to show some emotional side. I think the fact that both of them sleep with others with apparently more passion than they show each other doesn't help either. I think this show has tremendous potential, but I just think the cold in cold war is gonna toss viewers out before they have a chance to turn it around. Noah Emmerich is doing some nice work. So far, just a little icky in general. Gonna stick with it, and I hope the audience does too...but I can see this being a one and done interesting failure.
There’s something missing in The Americans that I can’t quite put my finger on.
