All Things:HBO/CINEMAX

So yesterday was tv catch up/dvr cleaning day...

Ok, so I finally watched the Leftovers finale'. Just made me want the new season to start tomorrow. First off, it's criminal that HBO has not produced a soundtrack. The music is so overwhelming and oppressive...but it works sooooooooooooo well. For a show that has long passages of silence, it's key. Not a happy show, but it actually ended with as much hope as the show has ever shown and that makes me even more excited for s2.
ANd I got thru 2 of the 3 episodes of the Newsroom. As much as I like this show, it is a little overwhelming. Sorkin packs SO much dialogue into each episode that it wears you down. It was very funny/clever/self aware when one of the characters said to a stranger 'Everyone in my office monologues'. The acting is top notch...just outstanding from top to bottom. Will miss this show, but it's sometimes a tough watch so I get why it's ending.

Well, I may have been one of the few still watching, but The Newsroom went out on a strong note. First of all...a big F U to EW for spoiling a major plot point. For chrissake it hadn't even been 4 days since the episode aired. So thanks for nuthin. The show could be overly talky and almost tiresome to watch at times...but the performances certainly made it worth it. Some tears, some happiness and the fight continues more or less. Overall a solid run and a show I am glad I stuck with. Thanks for the memories.

ha, I stuck with it to the bitter end too. I was kind of hoping for a longer final season, but it was an enjoyable series finale. I'll definitely miss it. and by it, I mean Charlie, Sloan and Don.

David Fincher’s HBO Series With James Ellroy Titled SHAKEDOWN; Will Also Direct LIVING ON NOISE for the Network

Back in September we reported that David Fincher and James Ellroy were collaborating on a Los Angeles-set 1950s crime noir series for HBO and now that show has a title, Shakedown. Remember when Fincher had those five fallow years between Panic Room and Zodiac? Boy am I glad he’s not repeating that, he’s one of our master filmmakers so I’ll take pretty much whatever he’s serving up.

Fincher will also direct another pilot for HBO called Living On Noise. That series will reportedly center around the director’s involvement in the 1980′s music video scene (you probably already know that he shot videos for Paula Abdul, Madonna, Nine Inch Nails, and Aerosmith back in the day). Hit the jump for more on David Fincher’s involvement in Shakedown and Living On Noise.

Per Deadline, Shakedown is “set in the tabloid world and the underbelly of Los Angeles in the 1950s and centers on a real-life private detective.” It is said to be drawn from the accounts of famous 50′s Hollywood police officer turned P.I. Fred Otash. Since Ellroy was the guy behind L.A. Confidential I have no doubts that Fincher has all of the creative tools he needs for this one.

The same goes for Living On Noise, which The Wrap says will be a half-hour show focussing on music video production in the 80′s. The show is said to center around the crew members of these video shoots. Not much more is known, but any Fincher is good Fincher. Even if some of our best filmmakers are running to TV.

Forgive the cross posting(also Directors) just think this is fairly good sized news and some of you may see it here, not there...vice versa.

"the guy behind L.A. Confidential"? Dude spelled "one of the greatest writers alive" wrong.
