All Things: San Diego Comic-Con

Dang it, I thought it was nude comic day.

Here you go

Preview Night was a wash. Harder than ever to get exclusives...already long lines wrangled by aggressive and hypocritcal handlers who broke their own rules that they were enforcing with their usual tact and decorum.

Great time with our team though and a last minute run to Mona Lisa in Little It'ly pulled out a win though. Today...Nerd HQ Zachary 'Chuck' Levi panel to start...shirt pick up...and the last real dealer's choice kind of day.

Beginning to rethink the plan to try for Hall H on Friday and Saturday. May skip the Got/Twd madness and put all our eggs in the Saturday basket instead.

SDCC needs to just ban the word "limited" or "exclusive". You have several hundred thousand people attending. There's no reason any company should want to sell only 50 of Item X. Sheer stupidity.

On that note, if someone grabs an extra free EW Wonder Woman cover in nice shape, I can PayPal something to cover shipping it up to me. :) Because why would the actual magazine subscribers get anything extra? LOL

So...Day 2

1st trip from far end of convention center to other side and beyond...
NerdHQ, Zachary Levi panel. Great guy and nice offsite. Geared for gamers and you youngins.

Back to far end of Convention center. Kidrobot is sold out of the one Exclusive I am looking for. Again. Scratch it. Gonna just order the non convention version. Done.

Smytheking and his lady friend strike out at Blizzard booth again. Crap.

Snowden panel. JGL may be a wierdo. Oliver Stone comes off well for a Tar Heroin smoking, tinfoil hat wearing pinko.

Luc Besson/Valerian panel. Cool guy...like a French Guillermo del Toro. Footage looks like it could be pretty cool.

time to get the free bags. Kingsqueen scored Teen Titans Go for a friend and I got a Supernatural one for my sis. ComicKarma!

Another trip from one end to the other. Sheesh.

Bataan Death march to opposite end of the festivities. And then a mile trek to the hidden fortress of the pre ordered merch booth.

Indigo Ballroom is as bad as Hall H. Humidity, soreness and general crankiness set in as we get NOOOOOOOOOPED out of the Silicon Valley panel.

Long trek to the other side of the facility again.

Not looking good for Mr Robot. But then...clouds part, and we get in. Colony panel. Ok. Looks like a show I could watch. Sawyer from Lost and Mrs. Rick Grimes. Ok.
Mr Robot panel. Rami Malek seems like a fun loose dude. Scene from next week...great stuff from Craig Robinson.

Wanna go back to our great room. Tomorrow it seems we need to dedicate to Indigo Ballroom, and then weigh options for Hall H Saturday nightmare. Luckily Tin Fish does take out, because one problem of our beautiful mini suite hotel is that they have zero restaurants.

Tomorrow is another day.

While you are picking things up, I'm told there is this wacky Iron Maiden shirt for sale there.

Seriously, I need that shirt in large. Unless it is ridiculously expensive.

Ugh

Con-Cough setting in for me and KQ.
Horrible chafing, blistering sunburn...Hooray

Ok, let me see if I can recall. Early run to Con Center on Friday because Rick and Morty gonna gum up Indigo all day and we NEED to be in there for Archer/Bob's Burgers. Looks good...10 am. Line moving. Long but moving. Considering crippling humidity & heat of day before...not too bad today. And good portion of line in the shade. But...the closer you get, the more unshaded. Bogs down...hour and a half later...we're in. Strange...Hall H coulda easily been navigated. Hurm

So we miss Robot Chicken and see Rick and Morty and some Scoplio Peeples show from Adult Swim and then Bob's Burgers(always funny...but sorta played out, at least for me). Archer...a Con highlight as usual, along with a trailer for the new season Archer:Dreamland. 40's Noir starting with a murder mystery, which all takes place in Archer's head as he is in a coma from previous season. Interesting to say the least.

Then, Preacher skipped for Hall H line.

and that's where it all went south.

Fairly long line. Embarcadero...park on the Island. Same place as last year, and I got in. Backing up...Friday's wristband system went as well as anything, with a quick delivery. Very few twitter complaints...maybe they figgered it out.
Nope. First, Saturday distribution didn't start till after 9pm. And, like all good systems...if you don't monitor things, **** HAPPENS.
Due to the lack of communication and those in charge giving contradicting info...a sub line started because the seperation between the existing line...and the continuation of the line, was a quarter mile away. Nobody caught it and thus a few hundred folks basically snuck the line. When the wristbands got there, confusion reigned. And long story short...wristbands obtained shortly before they ran out. But it was already 1:00 am. Shuttle ride to hotel and having to be there nlt 7:30 am we wound up getting a shower and maybe 2 hrs of sleep each. But, soldiering on. Got there before 7:30, and were lined up in direct sunlight till about 9:30 am.

BUT WE GOT IN.

WB stuff was insane. Including a whole Oprah-esque EVERYONE GETS A WAND moment during the Strange Beasts and Where to Find Them panel. JLA stuff looked good...especially Momoa as Aquaman.
50 Years of Star Trek panel was soul draining. Boring.
30th Anniversary panel of Aliens, sadly was the same.
Left the room for the Strong Women panel...but got back in time to find actresses who replaced other aging actresses complaining about the lack of roles for middle aged women.
Marvel...Well done. Other than Black Panther, which was a meet and greet for cast and director...the future looks bright. Looks like they are going to focus on more abstract stuff. Doc Strange looks nice. New Thor...and basically Planet Hulk combo looks like it should be bat**** nuts. Director is a wild card, judging by the short film he presented as a substitute for actual footage.
Then...James Gunn WON THE DAY. Ravagers ran rampant thru the Hall. Insulting and threatening. Cast introduced to catcalling fully costumed bunch. KURT RUSSELL!!!!!!!!
Then, some footage. Rocket and SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS
New Guardian Yondu get captured And have the ****ing adorbs Baby Groot steal Yondu's new prototype head fin, which gives him the awesome mohawk of the Yondu of my youth. After a few missteps obtaining it, all hell breaks loose. Great music, some really nicely designed cut scenes later and Michael Rooker is introduced in full costume. Some great interplay with Chris Hardwicke and some banter with the cast later, and we get a pretty solid trailer. Once again, just looks like loud, fun, 4 color mayhem. Kurt Russell is EGO THE LIVING PLANET...and, apparently...Peter Quill's pop. But, there is a undeclared and unexplained trailer cameo from a certain expendable older actor...so, proceed with caution. Official announcement of Re-fit Tower of Terror, Brie Larsson as Cap Marvel, and some free hats. G'night everybody.

Kevin Smith...a great end to a mixed con. Complaints aside, I will be back next year...god willing. Tomorrow, a waltz across the floor, a final goodbye and back to the salt mines.

Thanks for listening.

Oh yeah, Friday in Indigo...After Scoplio and before Bob's Burgers, Samuraii Jack panel. ****ing beautiful stuff. Serious bidness.

Oh yeah 2, Marvel Panel included Sony's Spiderman. Looked like they were really skewing young. Interesting. Something different.

But what did you eat, haha. Yes, I think about that. :hungry:

Good times, though, lines, and such, but you gotta pay your dues, right? Like hearing about what you peeps have been doing. :good:

Early on...Tin Fish(great fish and beer place...actually got take out one night too) and Mona Lisa(our fave old school Italian place in little It'ly). Rest of the time we did what we had to. New hotel was awesome...but NO food options, delivery or otherwise right now.

Home. Lotsa laundry, lotsa cleanup to do. Back to real life. Was it perfect? Nope. Never is. The road not taken and All That Jazz. Like I told Orph, the details fade in time...but the great times I had will last my lifetime. I am a fortunate man. I don't have a ton of friends, but the ones I have are keepers. Thanks to SmytheKing, Nowata Ok.,and Kingsqueen. Same time next year.

Here's that cosplay pic you requested of me and SmytheKing

James Gunn Explains Why You Won’t See That ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ Footage Anytime Soon

THIS! It's why I waited in line for 8+hours of hell. It was very deflating to see the WB stuff go up online almost before I saw it in Hall H. I can honestly tell you as someone who loved Vol. 1, the new GotG certainly looks like it is gonna blow the doors off the first one. Two words: MORE ROOKER!!!!!!

Very surprised that no outlets have shouted out about the __________ ________ flash cameo in the trailer footage.

That pic is awesome. They're both more adept at make-up application than I am. Nicely done!

Dunno. I think they could use tips from me. Dolphins are masters of eyeshadow. mhihi:
