All Things:Science Fiction/Fantasy

I was so confused as I exited GitS today as I found I liked it so very much. Great look, great soundtrack, great in IMAX 3D.

Much improved upon the 1995 original IMHO. And I realize some editing occurred (based on what was in the trailers) and that they may have drawn upon more story than the first movie. But for what was there, an easy 4 or 4.5 out of 5 for me.

I concur. Saw it last night in IMAX 3D and I'm so glad I did. This is one movie that truly shines in that format. Stunning visually, I kept expecting it to become less beautiful over the span of the movie but even when the story lagged it remained visually intoxicating. I've read the critical reviews and think they mainly come from misplaced expectations and the whitewash crowd needs to get therapy.

New ‘Fullmetal Alchemist’ Trailers Come with Yet More Racial Controversy
http://collider.com/fullmetal-alchemist-new-trailer-racism/

Now, about that racism. Recently, Paramount’s Ghost in the Shell adaptation took a lashing for perceived racism and “whitewashing” of traditionally Japanese characters. Comments buried in some of the non-official YouTube rips of the Fullmetal Alchemist trailers (the official posts were wise enough to disable comments) are now crying foul for this film saying that the roles of Edward, at least, shouldn’t be played by a Japanese actor in a blonde wig. (First of all, it’s not a wig. Second of all, the European setting was simply the inspiration; there is no Resembool or Ishbal, nor is alchemy a thing that works. Thirdly, there’s no word on how sentient suits of armor feel about Al’s portrayal of their culture.) Is this a serious concern, a response to Ghost in the Shell‘s controversy, or a silly distraction?

Ok, this is getting to the point that I no longer even understand wtf is going on anymore.

Fortitude is a place like nowhere else on Earth. Surrounded by the savage beauty of the polar landscape, its future sparkling with the promise of Arctic opportunity, wealth and discovery, Fortitude is one of the safest towns on earth. There has never been a violent crime here. Until now.
A savage murder of a scientist, to be specific. Terrific cast, a real unusual (and starkly beautiful) setting, tight writing. On Prime. Just binged through Season 1, getting ready to start on Season 2. I forgot it was sci-fi for a while, it starts simply as a well-done murder mystery.

Saw this was starting up...looked good. Then I saw it was s2. Where was this enthusiasm for s1?
Yeah, thanks for the heads up...gonna watch.

It's not in production yet, but could be if demand is high enough.
