FIRST ROUND: Kings Vs. Oilers

My thoughts are:

1. We need 13 and 22. 22 is making $7M this season. I say "get out there and help your team!" Every team has guys that are banged up, hurt, tired, etc. and play through it. If anyone remembers the March 9 game vs Colorado which the Kings dominated and won 5-2. After that game I said to my friends "this team could win the Stanley Cup." Seems like forever a go and of course the team looks much different today. However, I believe when healthy, we can beat anyone, including Edmonton. And as most have said, we have to stay out of the box.

2. We were snake bitten with injuries last year in this series with 8 and 33. I think 8 will play like a man determined. Hopefully 33 likewise.

3. It doesn't matter to me who plays goal. I am fine with either.

4. There is no such things as "stealing a game." I hate that phrase. You have to win on the road to be successful in the playoffs. The '12 team was 10-1 on the road an the '14 team was 8-6 if memory serves me correct. There are only 2 teams playing in the game, so you don't "steal a game." You win a game.

5. Edmonton is 9-0-1 in their last 10 and 17-2-2 in their last 21. Are they due for a losing streak? Have they peaked too soon? Regardless of the answer to that, it is tough to win every game.

6. T-Mac has never had success in the playoffs. Would be a good time to start having some.

Go Kings Go!!!!!

That's just nuts, sorry. Did you seem him his first game back? He skated once and was howling in pain and falling over. He's not beat up, he has a badass injury, or at least it's presumed as such. I hope he's fine in time, but it's doubtful. I'd rather he heals and plays 6 more years of a contract over pushing it, hurting it worse, and being unable to play for the rest of a long career.

Agree, especially since the Kings serious Cup window opens next year. They'll need prime and healthy Fiala for that. This year (like 2011 in a way) is about more playoff experience and some progress (i.e. win at least a round). Going to be tough, but it's good to see the Kings getting healthier (Anderson back, Edler looking ready to go, Vilardi at least skating with the rest of the group).

The 2 Kings that back up/pressure a defense are Kempe and Fiala. Trying to be optimistic, but without both of them I think the oil has more ozone time. More ozone time provides more opportunity for the mcjesus flop...oil PP. Kings goalies will need to be in top form. Looking forward to it!

Last year it was next year this year it's next year.. kinda sucks when injuries just happen to your "star", though Kempe has really beefed it up. If we get a solid confident #1 goalie (IDK if Korpi or Gavri are skating off next year - wouldn't mind seeing Copley play more).. healthy players, some key moves and experience.. next year will be interesting. But I don't wanna talk about it yet :d

"Fiala is still recovering from a left knee injury (likely a hyperextension) and was seen at this past Monday’s final home game against Vancouver with a sleeve/brace on his left leg. Vilardi is still recovering from an injury, believed to be a back injury after a fall in against the boards in a game against St. Louis on March 26 which saw him miss the last nine regular season games."

If the Kings are going to win this they need to go up to Edmonton and steal a game or two by playing disciplined but physical hockey, winning the 5 on 5 minutes and playing solid defensively.

Imagine if they could do that, then come back home and get Fiala and Vilardi back to add some energy and ride that momentum to victory in 6 or 7 games.

A focused Korpisolo could be a difference maker too.

Remember to take your blood pressure meds everyone. Let's go!

Kings scoring on the power play would help a lot. The Oilers play a physical game. If they get too physical, they'll take penalties. If the Kings can them make them pay, the Oilers will have to back off from the physicality. Don't make them the pay, the Oilers push the physicality even further.

Looking back on the season, the one game the Kings won over the Oilers, the Kings scored 4 power play goals.

The Kings actually beat them twice, in November up in Edmonton, and then in LA in January (the game you were referring to). However, those games are long ago and both teams significantly different (and better) to have much relevance. The two recent games are a better indicator, which predicts (oddly enough) a low-scoring series. Without Vilardi and especially Fiala, that's going to pose a serious challenge to the Kings. They have the D to contain the Oilers as best as possible. But, in a double-OT 1-1 game, the OIlers have the weapons (McDavid and Draisaitl) that can produce a GWG out of nowhere. The Kings don't. That could be the difference in the series. Here's hoping I'm wrong!!!

I agree with you. Without 13 AND 22 I dont see the Kings taking it. 13 and 22 dramatically improve the power play. If the Kings are going to have any chance they are going to have to convert. We know Edmonton will. Having those two guys in also balances the lines where the Kings can roll any line and be able to score.

I love that it is 2023 and people are still complaining about how Kopi has no one to play with. He's not a McJesus level scorer and never will be with all that gosh darn defense he plays. Kopi doesn't have an issue with wingers, Kopi is Kopi! Kempe's 41 are looking pretty good these days. Kopi makes players around him better, and not vice versa. That said, I gotta agree with the QB to the fourth line. You have to do something when playing with Kopi. With his net misses or hitting the goalie in the middle of the chest, we need someone who can contribute with Kopi and Kempe. Vallardi would do the trick hopefully, but he needs to be in the lineup.

Why is it always a cheap shot by an ex-duck that takes out one of our best offensive players? That knee to knee was BS. Then he went after Kempe.

I guess once a dirty player...

To win this series:

1) We have to win the Special Teams Battle.
2) We have to outscore them at even strength.

If we can do #1 , and should be able to do #2 , then we’re going to be fine.
