Kings Broadcasts in 2023 ???

I actually liked Alex. Yeah, he's a bit more polished and network sounding at times but he shutout and pontificating isn't any different than most sports. The biggest challenge to getting accepted was that he was taking the place of one of the best in history. Peeple here and other places would never accept him as Bob's replacement.

He will be all over national sports broadcasts for years to come.

I always thought that Faust was exceptional every time he did a nationally broadcasted NHL game. In fact there were many times I didn't even realize it was him. He kept to the game and left out all the editorial garbage. It's when he and Jim got together that it became at times very annoying to listen to. Maybe it's bias on my part having watched the best in the business for so long, but to me Faust and Fox together just didn't work. Some nights It was like two people who think they know everything trying to one-up each other.

If the Kings don't figure things out quickly, we might be stuck with something MUCH worse on ESPN+ or TNT.

That's the problem, I have no faith in the Kings finding an alternate broadcast. Until the Ballys bankruptcy is or isn't resolved by October 1st, it's wait n see....

BTW I reached out to my rep, he's out til Sept 5th. When I called the general season seat number no one is available.

There's a part of me that doesn't believe for a second that the Kings will go radio only outside of the 16 national broadcast games. And then I remember it's the Kings. It will be an absolute disaster with the fanbase if they do not have a deal in place starting with the preseason games in Australia. There's literally no excuse for a professional team, especially one in LA, to not have a TV deal.
Well if you take it straight from the horses mouth:

Due to current and ever-changing dynamics surrounding the broadcasting landscape, the LA Kings will transition to a singular broadcast team across television and radio beginning with the 2023-24 season.

Nick Nickson will serve as club play-by-play announcer alongside Jim Fox as analyst. They will be joined by Daryl Evans as an on-air personality for the simulcast. Additional roles will be announced at a later date.

The Kings are bleeding cash on the broadcast side of things because there continues to be a smaller and smaller audience for listening and watching LA Kings games locally.

Without a full leaguewide NHL broadcast deal (all the games), it's going to be tough for a local carrier to broadcast the Kings.
The viewers are just not their to justify the expense. There's not that many to justify the broadcast costs and the advertisers willing to purchase spots. Ever wonder why they left terrestrial radio too?

The NHL needs to realize that they need a full leaguewide broadcast deal for all the games.

The NHL is asleep at the switch. They need to get more eyeballs on the NHL. They need a national deal, and one that streams with no blackouts.

Great article. It's a huge mess - the bankruptcy part. However the league should have seen this coming YEARS ago, for the NHL the regional model for broadcasts has been dying. It's just not profitable. Too few eyes watching games to keep it on a regional level.

The article below spells it out just below the headline UNPROFITABLE.

The NHL makes money on game day ticket sales. They make very little on broadcasts.
Hence why they need a leaguewide deal for the NHL under one media company. Fans pay for each season and get ALL the games with NO blackouts. This is the future.

With bankrupt Diamond Sports Group possibly ditching unprofitable NBA and NHL agreements, and WBD exiting the regional sports channels biz, Disney/ESPN, Apple, Amazon and Google have also kicked the tires on acquiring local TV rights

Just hoping they work something out. I live in New Mexico and have Center Ice, so hoping I have access.
If nothing else ESPN+ covers pretty much all the games, so you could always watch the opposing feed.

NM is a beautiful state by the way - we love visiting Taos.

Jim Fox, to me is a too much of a fan rather than a broadcaster. He talks too much and he apologizes too much when Kings are lackluster, etc. I agree that Faust and Fox were a bad match so I hope Fox is better with someone else in the booth since we seem to be still stuck with him

I'm just hoping all the opposing teams at least have a broadcast deal so I can watch on Center Ice as well. Streaming is just so....herky jerky - and non-recordable/non-easily zoom-through-able when not watching in real-time. (although I think I have a better internet speed than at this time last year).

Knowing the stupid NHL, they will have local black outs (could be part of the Bally's contract they are stuck with. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Can you watch the opposing team's feed or is it still region blocked / blacked out? If so that is awesome as I'd love to drop Spectrum.

Don't quote me on this; I think it is still blocked. I remember having problems trying to watch Kings games when the play the Blackhawks for this very reason (I'm in Chicagoland).

Same experience here in North Texas when they play the Stars. Otherwise, works good/ lasts long time.

Out of market you can watch opposing team feeds or home - your choice. But in-market those are still blacked out too, unfortunately.

Hoven and DB stating on the latest Kings of the Podcast that they believe the Kings will have a 1 year bridge deal with Bally's. Regular season games will be on TV. Does not appear that Australia games will be televised.
