Confirmed with Link Kings name Holland their 10th GM in History

Instead of Marner, let’s go all in with Kings going hard for Kadri, Rasmus Andersson, and Byrum in trade, then sign Marchand at all costs.

If you need to make the money work, probably Danault has to go, which sucks but Kadri is a hard nosed player with way more offensive upside to slot in at 3C behind Kopi and QB(or push Kopi down to a very favorable 3C spot). I realize the trade costs would be high(Turcotte, Clarke, Greentree, one of our goalie prospects, lots of 1st round picks), but with this team’s regular season acumen, and subsequent crumbling in the playoffs, NOW is the time to seize a chance to win another Cup or two. A team led by Byfield and Clarke 3-4 years from now will be an absolute middle of the road club, especially if guys like Kempe and Fiala check out. The cap is projected to rise wildly in the next 2-3 years, so now is also an optimal time to grab players in their prime, and worry about how to make the money work later.

We desperately need bite and aggression that guys like Kadri and Marchand bring. Plus more puck moving skill out of the backend, so if Mikey Anderson needs to go, in order to replace him with one of the above defenders, I’m open to that as well.

For those who would cry about stripping the cupboards bare, my take is that once Kopitar and Doughty are done, this team is way overdue for a true, scorched earth rebuild. Unless we see actual results from Byfield and Clarke this season as true All Star type players, you’re just clinging to the illusion of hope that these guys are actual 1st line/top pairing players, and not foundational building blocks for a championship team
This is close to a version of the approach I think Holland will take. I don’t believe he wanted Marner at 14M. I think he wants more pieces to fill holes hoping that will raise the overall play more than adding one superstar.

The question is can Holland close these types of deals? I think he’s going to get a couple of guys that he really wants but he’s also going to strikeout and a couple more.

It is indeed the burning question. Is Calgary stripping down for a rebuild? Is Buffalo ripe to be fleeced? We can only hope.

One of my biggest concerns is Kempe. If the Kings don't improve significantly, what's the incentive to sign in LA when you can get as much money playing for a contender.
Kempe is just what many eastern teams need. Rangers, Bruins, ‘Canes and Isles immediately come to mind… hope he means it when he says he wants to play his whole career as a King.

I've heard multiple folks say that the money they would have to spend on Marner could get them 2 solid forwards or a forward and a dman...plus you'd still have the cap space cleared from losing Gavi and trading Spence. There's plenty of money to get good players...but can they actually attract them?

Look at it this way, if Marner would cost you $14M would you rather spend it on him, or for 3 Warren Foegles to play in the bottom 6, and another Edmundson for the bottom pairing?

This is what I’ve been saying now for a bit.

Which is why i am suggesting we trade for those players. No need to attract them, if you obtain their rights via trade. kadri has 4 years left, rasmus andersson has only one left before UFA, and Im sure he will get paid well, but wouldn’t you rather spend 7-8 mill on a player like him rather than Gavrikov? Byram is currently an RFA with no contract, probably due a significant raise, but Clarke only has one cheap year left before he will be asking for a very large raise. Marchand would be the only mercenary you need to lure in for the upcoming season.

In a perfect world, if there were actually 3 Warren Foegeles up for UFA, I would 100% want all three of them at 3.5 mill apiece. In fact, I would trade Byfield for those 3 Foegeles without a second thought, if that’s what was required.

Not opposed to this in theory. I would prefer Miller though. Great combination of size, speed and skill. Great long stick work as well.

Miller is the exact type of D man that will benefit from sheltered minutes in the Kings defensive first system. The less he has to think the better. His tools are off the charts but like most under-developed d-men he gets himself in trouble when he tries to do too much with the puck. The good news is his reach is ungodly and his stick work can rival prime Willie Mitchell.

It Gavrikov is gone I’d love to see trading for Miller move to the top of the priority list.
