LD1 has been the biggest hole on the team for quite a while now. Blake ignored it. Hope Holland has some answers. A first pairing of Mikey and Drew aren’t leading this team to a Cup.
Spence is too small. He has neither the talent nor the toughness to overcome that reality.
Miller is only 25 and a RFA. Perhaps he could be re-educated… but his game was heading in the wrong direction this past season. His point totals have steadily declined for the last 2 seasons, as has his +/-. On the other hand, he is 6’ 5” and 210 lbs.
Rangers fans like to bag on Miller and I don't watch him enough to see if it is warranted. He was very good prior to the draft, however. I don't know how high of an asking price he would have, but in some ways he is a better fit than even Byram. If Byram isn't attainable, it would be foolish not to consider Miller.
The Kings can't improve LD over Gavrikov without either giving up too much of what they don't have a lot (assets) for an established player or a bit of gamble with a younger player with untapped potential who hit a plateau. When it comes to UFAs there seems to be very slim pickings...

Sounds like he will be a boom or bust player, however.

Opinion: The Enigma that is Rangers' Defenseman K'Andre Miller
New York Rangers defenseman K'Andre Miller needs to learn how to be a more consistent player.insidetherink.com
You mean "rioters". Considering the emigrated free agents followed an appropriate process to be here, and the fact that they actually worked for it, they likely would not be on the rioters side. Not sure if that's a stone you want to throw.Well, since a large portion of the free agents we would love to have on this team are immigrants, they're probably on the protesters' side. So, not really sure if that's the stone you want to throw.

No way in hell Holland should give Gavrikov $8.5M x 8 years.
I hate to say it, but given how fast salaries are rising I think you are right (though I'd prefer a 6 year deal). In 8 years that $8.5M will be a pittance. Considering he's our second best (arguably best) D-Man, perhaps you do lock him up until he's 37.
He's going to get 7 years minimum. One dimensional defensemen with average foot speed do not age gracefully. 8.5 on a 4 year deal would sting but you can work around it. 7/8 years at that cap hit he turns into a boat anchor. It just doesn't make sense for a team that's looking to lift the ceiling on their gameplay not strengthen their defensive foundation.I hate to say it, but given how fast salaries are rising I think you are right (though I'd prefer a 6 year deal).

The Kings have very limited assets this off-season. Their best prospects are 2+ years away from possibly being NHL regulars. They don’t have a 2nd round pick in this draft. Their 1st round pick is in the mid 20s.Wow, there's just no good way to build a roster after giving Marner 14 million to be a regular season superstar. Thanks for posting that roster build. It was very illustrative.
lol, seriously? You think a NHL player has the same process as some poor immigrant? You fit in with all the other ignorant people who automatically think undocumented immigrants are criminals. It’s sad and pathetic half the country thinks like this. You probably cheer masked thugs snatching Americans off the street because of the colors of their skin. You mean "rioters". What's sad is that you believe that your political opposites actually believe that nonsense. That's what you've been fed by your media masters. Oh, and they're illegal aliens, not "undocumented immigrants". I'd be happy to debate you, but not here. Respect the board.lol, seriously? I'd take any of the three but wouldn't give up much for any of them. I think both Rust or Rakell's numbers would significantly drop off as part of the Kings' roster so not sure how much value they would really provide.
And here is a prime example of what “Win Now” can also mean. Trading for 33-35 year old players with their best hockey behind them.
It’s going to cost a young player like Laf, Spence or Liam Greentree to trade any of those players.I'd take any of the three but wouldn't give up much for any of them. For Karlsson, the Penguin's would have to retain a large portion of his remaining contract for it to make sense but he can still play and would make our PP quite a bit better. I'd probably rather see Clarke in that role, however.
