Punk...

Dwarves? The cover for the Blood Guts & Pussy album still gives me nightmares. :scared:

Dwarves gigs were a blast back in the day... all 15-20 minutes of them of course since they always ended abruptly.

I just got word Good Riddance will be playing Sep 5th at Borderline in Thousand Oaks. Direct Hit! (who I really want to see live) will be opening. My wife gave me permission for a last hurrah so long as baby #2 due the 11th isn't born yet......

I got to see Good Riddance a couple weeks before my first baby was born, would be real nice to add to that tradition. go on sale tickets, go on sale tickets..

Got hooked up for Pennywise and D.I. at House of Blues Hollyweird last night...

I had a dream last night I re-wrote AFI's Iwannagetamohawk (but mom won't let me get one) to I wanna get a tattoo (but the jews won't let me get one). My brother in law in rabbinical school was not amused.

I'm jewish so it's totally fine.

Don't worry, having dreams revolving around punk tattoos and guilt trips from relatives is all part of the Jewish experience. ;)

I probably posted this before, but it's good enough to post again. One of those bands I really I wish I could've seen back in the beginning. Love how he introduces it as a "love song."

Way back in in the day, when record stores were around and CD's were only years old, I would hit the "Used CD" rack and search for CDs to build my collection. I was not so discriminating back then, as I said, I was building a collection. Of course I bought bands I knew but I also used a discerning eye to get CDs that might be good: cool band names, cool album titles, cool covers. "They look sorta punk!" To be sure some were misses but most of the time I did ok.

The best ever "blind/buy on whim" purchase I ever did was a Gallon Drunk CD, because hey "Gallon Drunk" is a cool band name so they have to be good right?

To this day one of my fav's!

My second kid hasn't come yet, so I was able to check out Good Riddance at Borderline in thousand oaks last week.

That place is a trip. I drove by it twice by accident - it's hidden behind an apartment building or an office or something. I knew it by reputation as more a country bar. Between the mechanical bull hanging above the floor, the calendar with a ton of "2 step instruction" dates, and the square dance floor, you could tell. Also weird to have the side of the venue be windows looking out onto the 101 freeway. But, they served me the jameson and sodas in a massively tall glass filled to the brim, so thumbs up for that.

Direct Hit! from Wisconsin opened. I was super stoked to see these guys for the first time. The crowd reaction was non-existent. In fact I think there were only a total of about 10 people on the floor for their whole set, but I thought they were great. One member I did get to say hi to was extremely grateful for my buying a t shirt and LP, and despite the crowd response proclaimed he was just happy to be in LA and to be able to show his bare backside to the city at that "observatory thing".

Good Riddance was awesome. Hell of a lot more crowd reaction. They played what seemed about an hour and a half if not more, and a LOT of old songs I hadn't seen played in a long time, if ever at all. Venue sound was a little rough for the whole show, but take what you can get.

Overall, a very good time at my first show in a long while (and probably for awhile as son #2 set to be induced friday!)

first of all, congrats on the impending delivery of #2 .

secondly, ya..... i have friends i went to elementary/jr. high/high school with who are into country and LOVE that place. i've seen their pics of themselves line dancing at the borderline on FB. (and been scared). LOL. but if i still lived up there, it would've been pretty rad to watch a punk show there.

there was a venue that used to be a bowling alley when i was a kid and then became a border's book store when i was away at college and then a punk venue as recently as about 5 yrs ago but NP/TO are too lame to accept those elements and that no longer exists. sad face.

i saw against me! in a tiny room (that was actually part of a large venue but the rest of it was closed off) on monday and it was fantastic! just me and a few hundred other people crammed into a small room the size of a living room, people stage diving into the pit nonstop and singing along. i was sweaty as f*** and it was awesome. that is all.
