Punk...

stretching back to the OP

I'm sure everyone was picturing this

I never got into this song. Infact, imho its the weakest son on the album. I still don't know why it was so popular, wait, I do know why...it was the easiest song for the general public to wrap their heads around.

The OG ST album from front to back is just sooooo good man... "Don't **** with me subliminally!" So good.

I have to admit this song was my introduction, but I also far more enjoyed the rest of the album as well.

One of my all-time favorite songs.

Because where I'm going to now, no one can ever hurt me
Where the well of human hatred is shallow and dry
No, I never wanted to change the world, but I'm looking for a new New Jersey
Because tramps like us, baby, we were born to die

the song will always be their most memorable because of two things, Pepsi and it got tons of local airplay.

it's was the prototype for Tubthumping.

My older brother had ripped a bootleg copy of the vinyl from a friend right after it first came out. If I recall correctly, “Institutionalized” didn’t even make the airways until the year after the original album release. By then, it was kind of old news to me. But boy oh boy do I remember the uproar after "I saw your mommy" was finally picked up by the masses.

Yep, KROQ played the CRAP out of it. I even remember Rick Dees (KIIS?) played it one morning and got absolutely lambasted for doing it. Lol. He should have stuck to Styx.

BTW, Didnt the Reagan Admin ask Muir to change the name of "I Shot Reagan" (I shot the Devil)? For some reason I remember this as being actual fact. I dunno, 30 years was a long time ago.

The split has a great medley of Devil Dogs' songs covered by the New Bomb Turks, but couldn't find it online, so this will have to do.

Great group from SD.

"I used to say what was on my mind
and kindred spirits were easy to find...
But now my words are locked with a fist!
There must be something that I must have missed...
I used to say what I want to say,
I used to play how I want to play,
but now our nation's liberty is lost
in FASCIST DEGRADATION!."

I have an old friend who I hitchhiked to the East Bay with when we were 16 and lived in squats in Oakland for a handful of weeks. We moonstomped through some of the best underground punk shows together in the Bay Area. A true artist. An amazing painter, musician, and poet, but his love has always been photography.

Now that we're men of our 30s, he's become quite a successful freelance photojournalist and made his home in the Bay Area until recently. He left San Francisco a little over a year ago to live in Athens, then, not too long ago he went to Istanbul, and is now headed to Cairo on some crazy photo expedition.

While I think it's madness, I admire his dedication to his passion for documenting our worlds history as it unfolds. I've heard he narrowly escaped being arrested in Athens, has been tear gassed and shot at by police in Taksim Square (for taking pictures! the guys a pacifist!), and is now trying to get the funds or a gig to head to Sao Paulo or Rio after stopping in Egypt. We both have friends that we know from Jiu Jitsu in Brazil, so at least he knows people there, LOL.

In solidarity with and in dedication to my punk rocker friend in his quest to photograph public uprisings around the world, I say Bella Ciao!

'Next time you see me I may be smiling
Bella ciao, bella ciao, bella ciao ciao ciao
I'll be in prison or on the TV
I'll say, "the sunlight dragged me here!"'

The best part about this clip is how disinterested Letterman is when he announces the band (even gets the album name wrong) to how much he digs them after it's over. And how can you not like The Jim Jones Revue, they're like Iggy Pop's and Jerry Lee Lewis' bastard love child.

I'm sure there's already been some love for The Buzzcocks in these 22 pages but here's some more:
