haha, ya, i posted on the last page before this one that i was likely going to the first night of that trifecta. don't turn away is one of my most favorite albums of all time.

Oops I missed the post! As much as I love don't turn away and Pulley, getting to Santa Ana on a Friday would be murder for me. I might go Saturday as I love big choice (prob my favorite album of theirs). Although there are rumors unwritten law may be reaching deep into their old catalog for this one which is tempting. Plus everything's your fault and handout are two of my favorite face to face songs and I never get to hear them live.

haha, that's cool. ya, it is quite a drive, especially on a friday. and i think most people do prefer and/or know big choice best so it makes sense that they made that the saturday show. i would totally want to see the unwritten law/face to face bill but i'm pretty sure i will be all showed out by then. i'm in the middle of 4 shows in 2 weeks right now and then, if i go to that don't turn away show, it'll be 2 shows in one week at the end of december. before this fall, i'd only been going to about 2-3 shows/year since i became a mom. LOL. if i somehow change my mind, i will let you know and maybe we can say hello!

This this is the 'official' vid for this song, which uses the album version. There is a version that has an extended intro and that intro is one of the most kick-ass intros ever in punk rock and the version is a bit more revved up.

I'm laughing as there is a band called Forever Came Calling opening, who's bio says they originally formed in 2006 "as a Senses Fail and Taking Back Sunday cover band"

oh i see. ha awesome. you gotta tell me about it when you go. i saw strung out play on catalina island as part of some one off festival. real small. youth brigade and 2 other bands played. oooh boy, just dug up the news on that, ha!

i will be going to see the where's the band? tour featuring dustin kensrue of thrice and dan andriano of alkaline trio on the 21st. then face to face on the 26th for the don't turn away show.
and tell me about it.......... i just went to 5 shows within the last 2 weeks. it was almost 6 but this past monday night show sold out. i basically went to see lucero play on sunday and that was the opening night of a 3 night stint. i thought one night would be enough but it was just so fantastic that i wanted to do all 3 nights. they opened for themselves, playing an acoustic set, took a 30 min break and then hit the stage to play a 1 1/2 hr electric set. it was SO AMAZING. i didn't get home until almost 2am last night. my daughter woke up at 7am. i'm a zombie right now but it was worth it. and ya... my parents stayed over until 1:30am sunday night while husband and i went and then husband took care of her last night while i rocked out until 1am last night. fantastic. and i am so lucky that they tolerated that. great live shows are pretty much on the same level as kings hockey to me though. haha.
i have about a month's break before i go to anymore shows. i'm thinking of going to a show december 14. not sure yet. i already have a holiday party to go to the night before so i'll have to wait and see.

haha, it's a lot to keep track of. i just realized next thursday is thanksgiving and i need to start planning dinner.
it depends. i really enjoy alt country, in the vein of chuck ragan's music, and they are a southern band that basically incorporates country, blues and rock with a punk background. plus, their lead singer is dreamy, haha.

when lunchbox says "alt-alternative", that scares me into thinking about rascal flatts or eric church or something. But I'd say this is somewhat different?

oh hell no. definitely not like that, hahahaha. alt country, but nowhere near what i would call mainstream country.
that description salty quoted is actually spot on.
the song he posted is from a great album, "tennessee". you could check that out.
i would go with either that one first or "that much further west" (my personal favorite) and then "rebels, rogues and sworn brothers", then "texas & tennessee" (a 4 song EP). those all get regular spins at my house.

show was fun.
I walked in right as the Sheds ("agoura punk rock" as they call it) were finishing. I think they've been mentioned before but can't say much as I missed the set.
Forever Came Calling was definitely a bit whiney/emo-ish for my taste. Although after listening to a few songs on spotify before going, they sounded better live. Must've sped up and added a bit more rasp to the songs. The singer also weights 400+ pounds which I thought would hinder his voice, but man his high pitch and movement on stage was great. Thumbs up to him. I'm not a big Brand New fan, but I'm pretty sure they covered one of their songs. Someone standing nearby said it was Seventy Times Seven or something...
Rotting Out played next which was hilarious. They were like suicidal tendencies-lite from east LA. surprising number of fans for them. And a lot of "i'm an atheist and i'm not trying to preach, but you should question everything" soliloquies from the singer.
Strung Out was fun as always. I think the sound in borderline needs major work. I wear earplugs at most shows but can still usually make out what I'm hearing. The sound just seemed horribly off on this, with or without the earplugs. I also must be getting old. They didn't come on until around 11:00, and by 11:30 I was getting achy and tired. (old man river at 34....?)
But they played about every song I expected, and some oldy but goodies for sure. Lots of crowd movement, lots of fists in the air, lots of singing along. And as I happened to be wearing a no use for a name sweatshirt, I had about 7 or 8 different people either compliment me on it or give me a hug with a "RIP Tony" comment. There's heart, even in punk rock.

the funny thing about that is that you said they billed themselves as part taking back sunday. seventy times seven is a brand new song about the guy from brand new's girlfriend cheating on him with the guy from taking back sunday. haha.

the sound being off at the borderline doesn't surprise me since it's mainly geared towards line dancing and country nights. i prefer late night shows because then i can put my kid to bed and then slink out. i'm a night owl anyway. but i feel like they're not very common and i hear you. i can see how it's tough for anyone to wake up for work or their kids the next morning after a late night out. i think the only time in the last few years that i've stayed out late was those lucero shows. they would hit the stage between 10:30-11pm and then play until 12:30-1am. it was great.
awesome NUFAN recognition. my husband likes them a lot also and has a leche con carne shirt.
