Face to Face was fun saturday night.
Guttermouth was all I expected and more. Mark was as intoxicated as you'd expect. Their guitar and bass players ended up filling in on a lot of vocals when he was either dancing around, missing a part, or just messing with someone in the audience. There were also 2 young girls that couldn't have been older than 9 or 10 on stage singing every word to most songs. Seeing them mouth all lines to Lipstick was pretty funny, and trippy. Also got hit by a flying beer can (modelo 'espeshul' as Mark referred to it) halfway through the set which made for a nice smell on my jeans the rest of the night. They played about every song I expected within a 45 minute set. Lots of hilarious interaction with the crowd, lots of fast punk, lots of fun.
As I love Big Choice, I loved hearing it live in full. Trever admitted they played faster live and the whole album would probably only take a half hour, so they filled in the rest of the time with B sides and rarities (which someone next to me told me were the exact same from the prior night). Whatever, I was super, super stoked to hear "merry christmas" live as I love their version. Trever also comically noticed some peopel were mixing it up, but many appeared to be afraid to slip a disc or break their hip, then asked who was "40 or over", "30 to 40" or "under 30" in the crowd. The 30 to 40's got the biggest reaction (hooray for me) of which he was amused. The closed with one song from each of the two other albums for those who didn't buy 3 day tickets (You've Done Nothing and Walk the Walk). Great time, by which I sang my heart out.
Also, they brought out Matt Riddle to play bass for a couple songs which was a great treat. I was especially happy as I was wearing a no use or a name sweatshirt at the time.
Venue - it's been a long long time since I've been to this venue (since before when it was the Galaxy). They surely did renovate it quite a bit, whatever with tv screens, fancy lights and all that jazz. Seeing table service available at a punk show was really weird. I also don't remember having to pay for parking there. There was some kind of rap/hip hop show going on in the side room, which made for a good time watching interactions between the two lines waiting to get in.
I also found it very funny that there were people selling counterfit shirts for both face to face and guttermouth on the street before and after the show. I almost bought one for $5 on the way out but saved the cash. Also the famous "hoda" hot dog carts being cooked outside the venue afterwards.
Good times!
