Punk...

Believe it or not they devoted about 7 minutes to the Go-Go scene in DC, alone. Thats how mismanaged the time was, imho.

It should have been broken down into two, 2 hour parts. In retrospect, I would have waited for the DVD, which is supposed to have the original 6 hour documentary and 30 hours of extras.

Dont let me bring you down Dave. Seriously, go check it out! You may completely love it.

I read this review right after we chatted and its pretty much bang on...

Ya know, after thinking about it for a while now, this doc makes an excellent intro movie into the DC scene for those who want more of an education on it. As I said earlier, I think SC originally intended it to go deeper but just didnt have the time to jam it into 2 hours, and have it all work. I feel bad for him a little because you can REALLY see where he intended to go with it. He used the "To have 'B', you need to explain 'A' and to have 'C', you need to explain 'B'..." approach but eventually had to cut 'B'...and so on...

It makes a great 101 course but most of the movie goers I sat in with, including the 3 guys i went with (48, 44, 42, and me 43, respectively) didn't need a 101, because we basically lived it to some extent.

My expectations could be wonky, and probably are to some extent, also. I was hoping for more of a free-flow, DoTWC type documentary with intermittent commentary.

I was part of this scene from 89-94. I really want to see this because I'll probably see myself in the vids in the doc.

Evan Jacobs was in a band called Ice. They were horrible. They were very entertaining, however. They would cover "bang your head" by quiet riot. Evan was a big dude 250+lbs. He would take off his shirt & his butt crack was a site to see.

For those that remember, this is for you.

He talks about uniform choice. UC was the reason I got into hardcore & became a sxe kid. Scream For Change, Breaking Down the Walls, The Crew & You Are One. Still my favorite records. Classic stuff.

I wish I lived somewhere near Groezrock

X is playing at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach on May 24th............aaaaaand I just bought my tickets.

is that venue any good? I've seen quite a few bands I like start playing there recently, but have never been...

I've actually never been...this will be my first show there. I know it's tiny and there's nowhere to park and that's about it. I'm happy to report back after the show.

It's a decent venue. I think the sound is good for a club of this size. It is very small, at least in terms of the dance floor in front of the stage. Probably about 100 people, maybe even fewer, could fit on the dance floor, but there are also booths behind and to the side. If there's a band you like, I wouldn't hesitate to see them here. I don't know if they ever set up seating or tables on the dance floor, but every time I've been, it's been open, and I just stand right next to the stage.

Parking is the worst problem, but I've been able to park in front of the auto dealership next door most of the time. I do tend to arrive early, though.

To be honest, I've not really gone much further inside than right in front of the stage, which is pretty much immediately as you get inside, so I'm not sure how far back the whole thing goes. Presumably, there's a bar behind somewhere, but I've been able to catch a waitress every time, so I've never had to look for it.
