Punk...

Is this thread ever going to die...?

Why should it!

BTW, saw Me First and Gimme Gimmes last night at the Observatory. Great show!

Tweeted Orphy to see if was gonna make it, never heard back!:2smile:

But I am it feeling today. I did not go into the pit, but somehow the pit found me, some d-bag pushed me in. Pretty bruised and sore, I fell and some 250-300 pound guy fell right on me. He jumped up with look of terror on his face and reached down and helped me up while yelling "I am so sorry!" I told him no worries, not his fault. But after the show, walking with my pals out to the car I started to feel the effects. Either age is catching up with me, or the folks in the pit were a little rougher than usual. The pit at Charged G.B.H and Conflict was not as rough as this one. I suspect a few hipsters, the Gimmes does draw them, felt they had to be "tough", so therefore a tougher pit.

BTW, me and pal, and we did not coordinate this, wore King hats to the gig. Went to a brewery before the show, got Kings love there, and at the show plenty of Kings love. Saw a number of dudes in Kings shirts and hats. And at one point, while walking to the bar, some guy yells "Duck just lost!" and a cheer went up. Keep in mind this all in OC. Never have ever seen a Ducks hat at any punk shows there, plenty of Kings stuff though!

I should clarify something I said before about "some D-bag shoving" me into the pit. Knocking me in is more accurate. He did not do it on purpose, he was just a careless d-bag who knocked me in when carelessly rushed into the pit

Not punk but have y'all seen this?

Pretty damn cool!

Now here is where it does get punk!

You know who loved the Cure?

This guy!

Heard it in an interview, Wattie was asked if liked other music, meaning non-punk, and he replied "Of course! I love the Cure right now!"

He is one of the 15%! ( More on that later)

Yeah, I probably shouldn't post Post Punk in a Punk thread but I figure most of us in this thread would appreciate it because they're forever intertwined.

There has been a TON of really old Cure vid dumps on Youtube recently. What makes the above vid particularly interesting is it's pre "A Forest" (as we know it now) and it has Mathieu Hartley on keys. VERY RARE. Everything is there except Roberts lyrics and dumping the beating oscillators on the keyboard.

Found this a few days ago as well. Amazing that the original "A Forest" I posted first became the song in this vid in 4 months. Also its wild to not hear Simon's bass solo in 10:15.

Good s***. Youtube was made for this.

If we're gonna go down that route, I am game.

Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Join Hands is a GREAT album. Like my Saturday nights, it's bleak as ****! :wine: :skull:

Seriously though, the cool thing about both those Cure vids is when Robert backs out of the spotlight and all you see is a Fender doing it's job. Robert Smith is probably one of the most underrated leads and lyricists to this day.

Edit: Some of the songs from the 80 vid, dude held on to for 3 more albums. Such a wealth of lyrics and riffs. Good stuff.
