The Mess in the West

Kings are snoring through the game in Calgary. But the Oil vs. Knights is some great high energy pond hockey so far. I think Edmonton is gonna win this one tonight.

At least EDM won’t be a 3 point game - grateful.

Meanwhile WPG may lose to the Sharks. There’s a plot twist when NSH and CAL won if it holds up.

Quick got pulled on 6 goals in two periods and is getting roasted on Twitter.

In the 7 games he's started, he's given up at least 3 goals in all but one. His W-L record is still a good 5-2 there, but whatever bump in his level of play that he got after the trade appears to be over.

Edit: His GAA is now up to 3.53 and his safe % is down to .896. His GAA is about 1 goal per game higher than the other 4 goalies they've used and their main two goalies (Thompson and Hill) each have a save % of .915.

I guess we will see how many goals the Kings give up on Thursday to the Oilers as they are rolling at the right time.

Four points now separate #1 and #6 with 7/8 games left. The Western Division roller coaster is entering it's final phase. I'm buckled up with Pepto at the ready.

The west is indeed a mess, but I also can't believe how crazy wide open the entire post season tourney is shaping up to be. So many legit contenders in the east and central it's crazy. Who wants to face BOS or COL or TB or the Rags, or even NJ, or CAR.

I can't think of a post season that had so many hyper talented teams.

Its really Boston and Canes in the east, everything else is window dressing.

the Rangers are going to surprise people in the playoffs, I think. They've quietly been building a "perfect roster" and are peaking at exactly the right time.

Yup, and the rags acquisitions are starting to click. They are built to go deep and I'll argue they have the BEST offensive talent in east and are on-par with the Bs in the goalie department.

Regression to the mean with Quick. He stinks relative to the top starters. It is a shame he could not have kept the illusion going for longer and convinced Vegas to start him in the playoffs.

Latest Dom forecast now has the Kings finishing 3rd in the Pacific (boo!) with 104.4 points (boo!). I was hoping this year's team could pass 74-75 on the basis of loser's points.

Why are some worrying about Quick. Who cares if he started the playoffs with Vegas, if he lost by a big margin, Vegas would play another goalie the next game just like LA would do.

For what it's worth, I care, for although he's perforce moved on, Jonathan Quick is one of our own and as such, I can't help but feel for him, and indeed his family who love him so dearly, in his torturous, seemingly unshakable plight.

Watching Minnesota doing the Kings a big favor tonight so far. It's 3-2 Wild with 2 minutes left. Go Wild Go!

And the Knights just scored with the extra man. OT... Bummer...
