The Mess in the West

Quick is playing the same way he was for the Kings. He is just not having goals deflecting on defensemen, pin point chances and out of position players. He is the same player. The Kings had to make the trade to get a quality defensemen. Blake was not resigning him the way he was playing. He is playing in a different system and it's working. It is what's it is.

Just a reminder: In November Quick had a 3 game stretch where he saved 78 of 83 for a .939 SV% with a shutout and was 3-0-0. Three games don't mean ****. He was awful for the vast majority of this season and below average for the last five seasons. Any NHL goalie can look good backing up a great defensive team. Quick has never been great while the team in front of him was bad defensively. Never.

This MN/AZ game has been rock 'em sock 'em all night. Lots of fun.

He wasn't below average last season. Additionally so many fans have argued all season that the Kings are a top defense this season, so which is it? There is no doubt that the Kings defense has gotten stronger all year and, post Columbus trade, is the strongest it has been all season. Stating Quick has never done well infront of a poor defense is pretty silly as the Kings have been historically known for having a good defense (much of the reason why Quick has not won a Veniza).

Final point is that you knock Quick when he is playing poor and knock him when he is playing well - seems to me no matter what you are going to throw shade at him. Be happy since you wanted him gone and move on. When you've gotten to the point in which Quick's success causes you to throw shade, it's become way too person and you need to let it go.

I think we've got to admit that Vegas is just a more complete team than the Kings. Far from unbeatable but they're just a bit better. The playoffs are going to be fun!

He wasn't below average last season specifically, but I was talking over the last five seasons overall. And I don't know why you assign what other people have argued to me? They've had a pretty good defense this season, and have gotten better. Why should I not throw shade at him when he's been poor? It seems you're the one taking my criticism of him personally.

I did not see them going 4-0 in the recent games against Carolina (two), New Jersey and Tampa Bay. Impressive.

The Kings did not fail Quick, Why would they. The same team played in front of Quick, Peterson and Copely. Copely wasn't given any special treatment and Kopi and DD were pushing real hard for Quick to be the man, yet Quick simply wasn't making the saves. I believe that just like coaches, players reach a point where they need a change and that is what happened with Quick. It is a regular occurrence. Players go stale and a change of scenery remotivates them. I wish Quick the best but the trade has really helped the Kings, They improved the left d-man position. Gorvikov is playing great and Korprisov is looking real good, he's got two wins. If Quick would have been the 2 games Korprisov played they probably would have been losses.

Yeah it will be a good match up if we meet them in the playoffs, and should be fun to watch.

Seems Cassidy is the anti-Deboer when it comes to goalies

I still can't stand the Knights but they are definitely doing a great job when it comes to goaltenders as every goalie in their system appears to be doing well (when not injured). Sean Burke (I believe) appears to be very hands on and glued to Quick in practice which is very cool to see. Probably also helps that they have several defensemen (especially their top 3) who seem to keep things pretty steady in the defensive zone.

Thank you Stars tonight. Must say the Kraken announcers are a pleasant relief from our own

Kings got a lot of love today from Ken Daneyko and Mike Rupp on NHL TV. Both guys think if it’s not Colorado coming out of the West, it’s gonna be the Kings. The team has created a lot of believers since the first of the year. GKG!!!

Vegas is rolling. I don't believe the Kings have a chance to catch them with how strong they are now. Need to get the #2 spot, looks like Seattle will be the opponent. Vegas is winning all their games on the road. Who knew!

it would please me immensely if the oilers somehow miss. I'd also like to see seattle in the first round. I think that could be a nice rivalry in the making with two teams on the upswing. Plus i just love washington.
