The other teams thread

No way Gavrikov gets a raise based on this last season of play. If he’s lights out this upcoming year, then possibly, but I have not seen much to merit a substantial raise for him on his next contract.
I sure hope not. He’s essentially a LD version of Roy stats wise except he doesn’t bring the physical element. Better stick in lanes though. That Roy only got 5.5 as a RD, no way Gavi should get a raise. Just don’t know how Rob is going to fix this.

Exactly. Faber was amazing but even the guys on NHL Radio (how bad am I that half the time I'm in the car I am listening to NHL chat on XM rather than music?)
My office commute is 90 minutes roundtrip. Music most most mornings but podcasts on the way home always. So pissed off Marek got fired. Gonna ruin the 32 Thoughts Podcast too as far as I’m concerned. I really hope he does his own thing this season.

I agree but also think Gavi and his agent will expect a raise and leave without one. In reality. Roy is the better between the two and Gavi should be taking a pay cut on his next contract.

I did not think Gavi was all that good last season.
There is no way he would get a raise after this next season.
Problem with both Roy and Gavi is that they just don’t do enough to warrant 5-6M per.
Kings will need to find a solid second pairing lefty to replace him tho.

The good news is 6 million should get us a solid top 4 LD. If we keep Gavrikov, that's great. If not, get somebody as good or better.

Only 2 defensemen signed for more than Roy's 5.75 million -- Montour and Brady Skjei. Edmundson was 9th in terms of AAV for D.

I think that’s right. Gavrikov is a nice enough player. We know what he is. I believe he’s slightly overpaid. He’s pretty much maxed out in both ability and salary. He’s probably a $5M player. I think the Kings will find a better option for his spot for slightly more money.

Hes actually overpaid as the kings are paying for provorov too as part of the deal

Separate trades. We traded Quick, 1st, and 3rd round picks for Gavrikov and Korpisalo. We acquired retention on Provorov on a separate trade with Philly and Columbus to get rid of Cal Peterson.

Really? I hadn't heard that. His show was always very good. I need to go look up what happen. I did notice he wasn't on the show the last week or so and I found it odd.

Per the New York Post article on August 2,2024:

Sportnet’s Jeff Marek quietly fired after allegedly tipping NHL draft picks to friend

According to The Athletic, he was leaking picks just moments before they were picked to his buddy Mark Seidel so he could prepare social media posts. Draftees are ID’d to broadcasters a minute or two before names are called so they can prep highlights and focus the camera on the kid in the crowd.

There was no indication whatsoever that Marek’s leaking to Seidel involved any gambling, but being in Vegas the NHL reported the leaks to the Nevada Gaming Board. Sportsnet then let him go.

The article describes Seidel’s Twitter posts from years past, sometimes posting a pick seconds before it gets called. Clearly this has been going on a while but the Vegas location was the variable that got the very forward-thinking NHL’s attention.

Absolutely love this move for the Blues. Hope they get both but my guess is they’ll end up with Broberg only.

The Broberg offer will hurt them for sure, will be interesting to see what Edmonton does. It would be crazy to lose him for a 2nd round pick, but at the same time it may be hard for them to fit that salary in.

Holloway seems like a no brainer for Edmonton but will still sting a little.

Way to go Blues!

If you are interested in hearing a discussion from the Oilers media/fanbase.

Sorry for posting such a link. Though, I do think many of these guys are some of the "more sane" Oilers fans/media folks.

I like this move for the Blues. All it will end up costing them is a 2nd, and 3rd round pic, plus some cap space. They have the space, so why not roll the dice on these 2 players that are well on their way in their development. If neither player works out, not a huge loss.

I also like this move for what it does to the Oilers.

I still think that offer sheets are douchey, but the Oilers are douchey too, so I'll allow it, haha. :noidea:
I here what you are saying but keep in mind the players SIGNED the deal. So they are willing to play at the offered amount....now it's up to EDM to decide where those players play next season.

Well said.
I wonder if this could be a message to either Bowman for his recent job or the Edmonton organization for hiring him.
Yeah, possible. However, very doubtful. I am sure ownership is not going to let the GM waste assets and money just to send a message. Could be part of it, but not the prime reason. I understand that the Blues had to make another pre-trade to get "their" draft pic back in order to even be able to make the offers. So, this was a hockey move IMO, but ended up being kind of a slap in the face at the same time. Win-WIn for some.
