Rags trade Kakko to the Kraken

The trade is not on the link you posted. :)

IMO a very good trade for Kraken. They gave up practically nothing of significant value.

Kakko will have a chance to prove himself within a new, less pressure-y and less glamorous environment. I can't imagine any Finn to flourish in a city like NY lol. The Finnish games played and point leader for NYR is some dude called Reijo Ruotsalainen, a D-man who is 76th in games played, 42nd in points and who was born in 1960. He's also on a fairly insignificant year production wise, so he should be very affordable to lock up long-term and could prove to be a long-term top 6 player for Kraken.

If the Kings were struggling at this point I wouldn't mind Blake making such a trade at all.

Mikko Rantanen is about to hit UFA this summer. Early rumor is he wants 14M a season. With the Cap jumping to 92M I think the Kings could make a run at him. Unfortunately it would mean letting Gavrikov walk and trading away Moore but Rantanen is a true game breaking offensive forward and he would turn the team into a top 3 team in the Conference.

Kakko to Kraken is Kool.

I realized the Kings were in 3rd behind Edmonton, however, what I didn't realize was that they were 8 points behind 1st place Vegas. That road trip was brutal.

Vegas is 9-1 on their last 10. That had something to do with it too.

Yes sir, there will be no catching Vegas. Possibly Edmonton can make a run at them?
I don’t think EDM will catch them either. They are the class of the division and have quite likely the best defense in the league. Just enough offensive talent to win close games. Great coaching. If I had to pick a final two right now I’d say VGK and FL.

In my dream scenario EDM slips up somehow and plays VGK in round 1 and Kings get VAN, but that is, as I said, a dream.

How much cap space will the Kings have at the end of the 2025/2026 season?

Well now that capgeek is gone this is harder to figure out, but from what I can tell they will have about $18m left in cap space, but will have only 15 of 23 active NHL contracts. UFA's are Jeannot, Lewis, Gavrikov, Englund, Rittich and Copley. RFA's are Laferriere, Kaliyev, and Lee. I'm sure the smarter people on this site have studied this more and have a much better grasp of the cap space available.

I don't know how in the world Edmonton could re-sign Connor McDavid, what with Draisaitl's $14M cap hit every year until 2032/2033, and anyone signing McDavid will most likely take a $15M minimum cap hit.

Well it was Bowman that overpaid Toews and Kane in Chicago, so maybe he's hoping lightning strikes twice.

Puckpedia says $16.76M if the cap stays flat at $88M. Bettman says it’s going up to $92.4M at a minimum. So that means the Kings will have at least $21.16M in cap space.

I am pretty sure that McDavid wants outta Edmonton (who wouldn't? lol), but I do expect him to give the diplomatic "I would like to stay" response if the issue comes up.

And a lot of players give that response and don't really mean it, but I think it's usually more complicated than that. I believe, say, that McDavid could mostly want out, but there's that part of him that does want it to work out in Edmonton.
