The other teams thread

So the Rangers acquired Miller for what is essentially the equivalent of Trevor Moore, Jacob Moverare, and a protected 1st round pick.
Vancouver got a youngish center, something they’ve been looking for and that description doesn’t fit Trevor Moore to be honest…

JT Miller has been awesome for the Rangers this weekend. Congrats to Quickie. I started a thread for it. First American to 400 wins and 15th overall.
Quick gets to sit on top where he belongs!

I was looking at the all time wins list for US born goalies and was a little shocked to see Hellebuyck is already up to 308 career wins at age 31. He’s got a great shot at 450 wins imo.

Hellebuyck may eventualy get more wins, but Quickie got to 400 first! :)

The teams that have a legitimate shot of making a run are now making moves.
I wouldn’t put Vancouver & Calgary in that category.
I’m just about there on Gavrikov. He’s a fantastic d-man but just like Matt Roy, he’s not the d-man this team needs moving forward. What the Kings have shown is they know how to limit scoring chances almost regardless of who is on the blue line. It’s pretty impressive actually.

Kings coming into this season with no Matt Roy and no Doughty for 45 games while adding a statistically terrible Joel Edmundson but somehow the defense is actually better vs. last season. That’s bigger than the personnel. That’s the system. So why commit so much money to Gavrikov when we have much bigger needs?
My reason for wanting to keep Gavrikov was his willingness to switch to the right side when the team needed it. Which was something Roy wasn’t willing to do. I don’t know if it means we resign him. Maybe he wants a whole lot of money. And maybe the Kings are going to use their extra cap money for a top forward. But I’d make an effort to resign him.

I wonder which time would be better for trades. Before the trade deadline or now before the 4 Nations? It doesn’t look like a lot of teams in the East are dropping off. So they’re not selling off players. Maybe the best time to do something is now. We do need to trade out some excess D men for some forward help. We should do that before all the good players are gone.

Gavrikov is a very good defenseman and this is the best he has ever played. There really isn't a question that he is the best D the Kings have iced so far this season, and that includes Doughty. That said, I don't think he could ever be the main guy or ramp his intensity enough to lead a team in the playoffs like Doughty can. He also lacks a physical game.

Normally I would be with you and want to re-sign Gav but for the money he is going to command, he ends up in a situation like Roy where he's a very good player and likely worth the money, but just not the player the Kings need considering those who are currently unmovable on D.

Currently the Kings badly need two types of defensemen: smooth skating who can generate offense (including breakouts and zone entries) without being a defensive liability, and a physical force who can skate well and hold their own in the defensive zone. Gav doesn't fall into either category, unfortunately.

It would be sad to see him go, but it seems like trading him for a piece we need (and can afford) is the Kings best path to success.

Am I missing something? I was under the impression that Gav has a full NMC so unless I'm wrong or there is some intel out there suggesting that he would be open to waiving it he's not tradable.

Gavrikov is going nowhere unless the Kings are out of a playoff spot. Teams live for making the playoffs. Moreover, a team that would take on Gavrikov isn't going to send anything back but picks and prospects.

Good check in by Friedman.

Sounds like Alex Tuch could be moved. If he’s available Blake should be calling. He has a 4.7M cap hit. Signed through 2026. Trevor Moore has a 4M cap hit…

A very + player on Sabres? Sounds tempting.

what else are you giving up besides Trevor Moore?

Tuch would be a solid add. Seeing this reminds me of the litany of great players the sabres have shipped out in recent years. I was clamoring for the Kings to have traded for Eichel, Reinhart, or both, at the time they were shipped out of Buffalo. I’m fairly certain that Byfield, Turcotte, Clarke, and picks could have very easily netted us both. Instead, we have managed to trade away the actual blue chippers in Faber and Vilardi, for a skilled, yet mercurial winger and a goalie that probably could have been had for peanuts.

Is there another right shot forward that might be available. Ex Golden Knight maybe?

and then this.

And then this. Preds bring up a young right shot forward. Maybe they are expecting there to be an opening in the lineup soon?
