The other teams thread

Oilers go down to their 5th loss in a row. Calgary loses. Ducks are up on Canucks 3-2 going into the 3rd period. Vegas is destroying Chicago, but that would have been too much to ask. Pretty good night for the Kings already.

Yeah, suck it Deadmonton, Crysaitl, and McOverrated. Hopefully, you keep losing until you drop down to either a wild card or out of a playoff spot so that we Kings won't have to deal with you petulant drekheads in the playoffs.

We all know Edmonton will get their crap together, eventually. Hopefully the Kings will not go on another losing streak.

Not necessarily related but looks like 2 guys on the move.

And you know Vegas with get Rantanen somehow. They could care less about developing young talent. Have traded something their last 5 number one picks? All about bringing in more veteran talent, could care less about loyalty or building long term fan favorites that will have their numbers in the rafters. Different model, would probably suck in a more established market that is used to having players that are synonymous with a franchise. Can't argue with their success.

Wow.. that’s pretty wild considering Carolina is in the thick of the playoff race and has a really good team. Especially considering the assets they gave up to get him. Although maybe they suspected he was a more tradable commodity than Necas, and if they do trade Rant, I guess they can act as a cap diminishing conduit. Did Colorado retain on Rantanens cap hit when they sent him to Carolina? Can Carolina again do the same thing, making Rantanen extremely cheap?

I assume this is also because they tried to resign/extend him, and he probably refused? So now they at least want to get a return for an extremely premium asset, rather than just blowing their load on one crack at the playoffs

Yep, good move on their part to maximize their future. I really hope he doesn't end up on the Oilers tomorrow but that is where all signs point to.

Sounds like he took warmups so we'll see what's next.

Unless we get a really good deal, I wouldn’t trade for Rantanen at the deadline. He’s testing the UFA market. Go for him then. Just get a right shot forward and a backup goalie. I know it’s not sexy. But I don’t want to give away major pieces. If we get that, then we’ll see what happens in the playoffs. If we succeed (win a round) that’s great. If not then that should be the end of Blake as GM. Then we can look at how we build this team.

And right after I say this, reports are that Dallas is negotiating a contract with him. Oh well, my take stands. It just changes to targeting Marner this summer.
