An underrated aspect of McDavid and Draisaitl is their insane endurance. These guys get deployed like stars of the 80s. And more importantly they just seem to never get burned for those long shifts. It’s probably impossible to nail down but if an opposing coach can catch those guys when they’re out of gas that might be the key to putting those rabid dogs down.Thinking back on that Vegas game again, Pickard played out of his mind and still let in 4. Again, Elliot Friedman comes to mind, and says to beat the Oilers you have to win at least one game 5-4, and probably two. Just nails on.
McDavid, man. He just makes it happen. Any shift, that can be that. Absolutely undressed Eichel. Playoff Oilers are a monster.
This is true, but their minutes are so attack-oriented that they’re easier minutes. An underrated aspect of McDavid and Draisaitl is their insane endurance. The aspect of the Oilers game that is the weakest is their defense. Teams have to attack offensively and expose that defense. The Kings did that and were successful. Until they didn’t.This is true, but their minutes are so attack-oriented that they’re easier minutes.
What Friedman’s analysis really makes me sure of is that the only way to beat them over a 7 game series is to take the risk of being more offensively-oriented. Also have to forecheck - a lot. It can be risky to try and focus on hitting McDavid because he can evade and burn you. Hit him when you can, but wear out the rest of his team but hitting them as much as possible. Then just keep going after the scoreboard. Kings actually played this way most of games 1-4.
FL won a defensive masterclass in game 7 last year. Maybe that inspired Hiller in the third period this season. But of course you and others hit on the deployment issue being problem number 1.
This 100%. We all saw it.The aspect of the Oilers game that is the weakest is their defense. Teams have to attack offensively and expose that defense. The Kings did that and were successful. Until they didn’t.
Doughty addressed the issue in the interview just the other day when he pointedly stated that no one told the team to sit back. DD said it was on the players. Hiller and Kopi essentially said the same thing after Games 3-4.This 100%. We all saw it.
But no, doofus gave them time to get their sh*t together
with his brain dead coaching.
If this is true then we’ve got a much bigger problem, one that simply replacing the coach won’t solve..Doughty addressed the issue in the interview just the other day when he pointedly stated that no one told the team to sit back. Players ultimately are responsible for how they play. The Coach can’t sit the entire team when the players fail to do what the Coach has instructed.
And it’s not a weak coach when the players don’t listen. It happens and it happens to every team in every sport. It’s the nature of sports. Players can be very hard-headed.
I think the problem exists in the minds of the players. The continual losses in the first round (to the same team) is a mental hurdle and a mental toughness issue. It’s between their ears. Nothing can fix it except the players deciding they are tired of losing. It would help to bring in some players with playoff success in the areas the Kings need to upgrade. A tough defensemanThe thing I love about a Vegas/Edmonton series is that one of them will not advance.
The thing I absolutely abhor about a Vegas/Edmonton series is that one of them WILL advance…

It is very suspicious that certain teams seem to get calls that help them. Refs always “see” the calls that benefit them, but the same refs seem to “miss” penalties that would hurt those same teams. It happens and it’s getting to be a pretty common occurrence. So how much help are the Canadian teams going to get from the refs? A Panther practically decapitated with a high stick--no call.
