The other teams thread

There won’t be any “waste of 8 days” matchups in the West. WPG still needs to prove their post season abilities again and if they get the Blues I no joke wouldn’t rule out an upset. Not calling it likely, but wouldn’t rule it out.

Whoever Caps play should be the one totally lopsided matchup this year. Quite ironic since the Caps were on the other side of that last year.
Don’t discount the curse of The Presidents Trophy.

Seeing it laid out like that do we really want to switch sides with the VGK and face the Blues? Eeek.

On ESPN it's different
C1 Winnipeg Jets vs. WC2 St. Louis Blues
C2 Dallas Stars vs. C3 Colorado Avalanche
P1 Vegas Golden Knights vs. WC1 Minnesota Wild
P2 Los Angeles Kings vs. P3 Edmonton Oilers
Blues have more points than the Wild right now and I don’t see that changing. Will face the Pacific Division winner.

This is precisely why I mentioned Vegas shenanigans, in the form of trying to dodge the blues in the first round.
I can’t say I agree they’d throw games like that. I think it’s just too hard to do. The one year EDM looks beatable though it would be very on-script for the Kings to win their first Division title and face the league’s hottest team and lose in 4 or 5.

Can’t believe I’m sitting here rooting for Vegas wins. What a time.

Actually, it would be the Kings second division title, with the other being in 1991. And who knocked out the Kings that year? Yup, the Oilers in the second round (long before McDavid, Draisaitl, and RNH had even been born).

Pardon, I meant first Pacific. I know about the Smythe.
Ovi just did it.
He's tied with Great Wayne View attachment 11573
Could well be an empty netter that puts him over. I want another Caps power play or two. Past a goalie for good measure. But regardless that was emotional already seeing the record get tied.

Or even better: Hawks tie it and he wins it in OT.

Got it, regarding the Pacific / Smythe distinction.

I still say that 1991 Kings team could have made a run at the Cup. Gretzky, Sandstrom, Granato, etc all in their prime. Taylor and Tonelli still a force, a 25 year old Luc, 21 year old Flake, Hrudey in net, etc.

Remember that Oilers series well. After Luc scored in OT (on Ranford no less) in game 1 I thought they would win that series. Then the Craig Muni hit on Sandstrom (I believe in game 3) seemed to turn the whole series around.

That Kings team DEFINITELY could have won the Cup. They had the offensive firepower to compete with the Penguins, and could shut teams down also. That 1991 series loss to Edmonton was INCREDIBLY bitter (worse than losing to the Canadiens in 1993 at least for me, believe it or not). The Muni hits on Sandstrom AND Kudelski in the same game (game 2, which the Kings lost in 2 OT) definitely changed the series. They lost two more OT games that series, including the game 6 elimination game up in Edmonton. Yes, I remember that series very well, for all the wrong reasons.

Ovie showed a lot of class and total respect for Gretzky by declining the shift with the empty net.
