The Knights looked..spent. I thought they'd be able to exploit the Oil's D, but last night's zero scoring chances in the 1st, and outside of a few minutes of the 2 nd and part of the 3rd couldn't muster much of a threat- I mean Skinner with back to back shutouts kind of says it all. I agree the Stars can get it done, but Eckholm's return might be a thing.I have the Stars playing the Panthers for the Cup. Oilers defense still isn’t good enough.
I’m not disputing that Doughty had a bad series. I’m saying this is what the Oilers do to d-men.But Doughty did look like crap. You could beat him wide virtually every single time down the ice. That's not the Drew we've watched for a decade and a half. I don't even remember him looking that sluggish in the 4NT, so I wonder if he had some setback late in the season.
That and he is not playing against a team with McDrai duo. Mathews has zero points against the Panthers in something like 10 playoff games and is only around a .8PPG player in the playoffs. The McDrai duo shows up in the playoffs. We have seen that all to much, have we not.Apparently Florida paid attention to our series. A 4-0 lead and they aren't sitting back just daring Toronto to score while playing just 3 lines and 4 D. Maurice must be some sort of genius.
I would not mind seeing the Canes vs Stars. Have no problem with it being the panthers though.I have the Stars playing the Panthers for the Cup. Oilers defense still isn’t good enough.
Yep, pretty much. The Oilers were very close to sweeping the Knights. The Kings were very close to sweeping the Oilers, until it all unraveled with the help of Edmonton turning up the heat and going with their "Nuclear Option"I’m not disputing that Doughty had a bad series. The Oilers are showing that it doesn’t matter if they’re up against Doughty, Gavrikov, Pietrangelo, Theodore or Hanifin. They’re capable of making them all look bad for a series. Yet Doughty is the one who got the spotlight for being slow and overmatched.
Maybe it’s time to give Edmonton’s offense a little credit?
Just another example of how close the Kings really were. Had Hiller been able to out-coach his adversary, or even match his adversary, the outcome of who wins the Cup this year could have been very different.Yep, pretty much. He must have incurred some sort of set back. His skating stride looked choppy AF.But Doughty did look like crap. You could beat him wide virtually every single time down the ice. Congrats to the Caps for winning the trade with LA. Those 3 assists in 10 playoff games for Dubois were priceless.
Doughty did it to himself. Playing snow angels on his belly while opposition skated around him too many times.I’m not disputing that Doughty had a bad series. I’m saying this is what the Oilers do to d-men.

That works against players with less skill. Not so much with McDrai.Doughty did it to himself. Playing snow angels on his belly while opposition skated around him too many times.
Someone who makes $11 million to defend should know that. That works against players with less skill. Not so much with McDrai.
Look, we know Doughty is overpaid - he was never worth the $11m AAV from the time he signed that contract extension to now, but shutting down McDavid cannot consistently be done by one player alone. Added to that, Edmonton is an offensive juggernaut when they are clicking, and are excellent at both moving the puck and using their bodies to wear down defenders. All-in I didn't think Doughty had a bad series, but definitely not a good one. He had some pretty low lows but much of that was due to playing too many minutes (which I feel is self-inflicted due to his own reluctance to get off the ice). For the most part, though, he was pretty solid.Someone who makes $11 million to defend should know that.
In the playoffs I would’ve switched Doughty & Clarke’a ice time. Clarke should’ve gotten 20 minutes & Doughty should’ve gotten 11. And going forward I’d have Clarke on a higher pairing than Doughty. At least until I know he’s fully healed.Look, we know Doughty is overpaid - he was never worth the $11m AAV from the time he signed that contract extension to now, but shutting down McDavid cannot consistently be done by one player alone. What Doughty is not, anymore, is a super-star and his worst enemy is that he still thinks he is. In reality, he's probably our 3rd best D and may slip more in the ranks next season provided we bring back Gavrikov, or sign an equivalent player, and Clarke continues to mature.
I don't know about that. Given there is still G7 the annual choke is still in play. Tee off times haven't been cancelled just yet.Interesting. Toronto forces a Game 7 by shutting out Florida. Looks like Toronto is not ready to go to the golf course yet.
