”The Mammoth have acquired right-winger JJ Peterka from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for forward Josh Doan and defenceman Michael Kesselring, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported on Wednesday.
Sources tell Sportsnet that Utah has agreed to a five-year, $38.5-million deal with Peterka.”

What the h… is Buffalo doing? Peterka is 23, just scored 68 points and will most likely continue to get better. And all they got for him was pretty much a big meh…

I just REALLY wish we would have beaten that offer. To me, Turcotte and Spence is a much better offer! Should you have done that deal, because I would in a heartbeat although I really like Turc!

I'd say Doan and Turcotte are more or less a wash but Kesselring has enormous size advantage over Spence. Maybe that was the selling point. Besides, maybe HillKen don't like Peterka or think his contract is too large considering other holes that need to be filled and the impending Marner race.

Fair point on Kesselring! But I personally would take Peterka at $7.7MM per year over Marners almost dubble salary and that extra money would then help us a long way with all the other needs we have.

But one has to wonder if the Kings lack top end F talent, a very good 3th line and top 4 D rather than very good 2nd line wingers...

I just think that Peterka (a very good 2nd line winger with potential to be even more) and the money saved that we instead can spend on a very good 3th line and a top 4 D would make us a better TEAM compared to paying all that on ”just” Marner (top end F talent) who most likely will not get any better over the next couple of years.

Yes, game changing talent is rare to find. But is Marner really the true game breaker we need come playoff time? To me, Florida have shown that you win by constantly hammering your opponents down shift after shift (like we did 2012 och 2014) rather than betting everything you have on shiny and pretty superstars like Edmonton do…

Kings need more physicality in their lineup with some skill. We have seen what it takes to win the cup. Florida has a great mix of physicality and skill, the Kings don't. Bring in another highly skilled player, the Kings will be good, not cup contenders. You don't need a game breaker to win the cup, Mc David.

I agree with the Swedish King-- I would have loved to see Holland put together something similar to what Utah gave up to get Peterka. Back to back 25 goal seasons are nothing to sneeze at for a young kid. The cost was a couple of prospects but not really anything blue chip. Dang.

Also, most of the trade reviews on the Kane deal seem to have Edmonton getting an A- and Vancouver getting a D/D+. I really wonder what is going on in Vancouver. Your locker room was a mess with the Miller-Petey thing, your coach decided to leave rather than return to the chaos, Quinn Hughes seems like he wants to GTFO in a year, and your next move is bring in Evander Kane. And you give up a mid-round pick to absorb the contract instead of getting a sweetener? For all my complaints about the Kings FO making B- level moves (generally smart but seldom anything brilliant), at least they aren't the dumpster fire combo of Allvin and Rutherford.

Sometimes when you're so focused on big game hunting you miss these opportunities. I really hope Holland is keeping all options open. Because if he doesn't land Marner or Bennett, Kings could be stuck with the same old same old. Who knows he may be working on something big. The Mayor had mentioned that Spence, Turcs and Moore are all in play. Not sure what a package like that would net.

And Doan is significantly bigger than Turcotte. This was a trade to add size and physicality to the Sabres.

Could Vlasic be a candidate for LA’s 7th dman?

Sorry, it was a typo, I meant 4th line.

I'm not a huge fan of signing Marner. But left shot winger is not the top priority for this team...

Yeah, and Burroughs is just rather sub-par, even by depth D-man standards. Even Englund was mildly better and I'm still left puzzled on why Blake decided to waive him away instead of Burroughs.

My guess would be because Burroughs is depth RD and Moverare is depth LD. That and maybe Englund wasn't a good fit in the locker room - if nothing else he injured Turcotte in the AHL with an illegal headshot.
