I stayed near Bend Oregon on the Deschutes River, so the Deschutes Brewery was a natural. This Black Butte is a little bitter like Guiness but not quite so stout. A very good local beer and I enjoyed several and like it better than Guinness.

I tried this one also and it was like Anchor Steam Beer, light with a real fresh taste. Really enjoyable in the 90 degree heat of Oregon. I'd like to find these Deschutes brews locally if possible!

The Deschutes Brewery is awesome! I went there one December when it was snowing. The Cinder Cone Red is very very good but almost impossible to find down here.

RR- Bevmo has Mirror Pond and Black Butte all the time.

I'll have my friend in Southern Oregon keep an eye out for the Cinder Cone Red. If he can find it, I'm sure he will ship some down.

I was just in Bend. Deschutes has a good seasonal beer going called Twilight Ale. I don't know if you can get it down here (haven't looked at BevMo), but I recommend it if you can find it.

had Steinlager for the first time.

also had them for the last time.

it's the NZ version of Budweiser.

I don't know about you, but if a friend gets you that beer, slap him upside the head and make him get a better beer.

OK I hit Bevmo today and got four different Deschutes Brewery brews. Everything from Mirror Pond Pale Ale to the super dark Obsidian.

I'll have to try those Deschutes beers.

btw, Bevmo also carries Stone's Electric Epic ales. what's interesting is that these beers come out roughly every 13 months (3/3/03, 4/4/04, 5/5/05, and so on) but you must preserve it for several years as it ferments to the level of whatever. the ones that are available this year, dated 5/5/05, suggest that you don't open the bottle until the year 2012.

what's up with that? that's a long time to wait. I can envision myself wrapping a bottle in a towel, stuffing it in a paper bag and stowing it away deep in the closet. then forget about it for 7 years.

If anyone is ever in Canada, you must try the line of Sleeman's beers. They just came out with an Original Draught, and is a great beer. You don't have to try there whole line, but definately their Honey Brown, and Original Draught.

I finally found the Cinder Cone Red from Deschutes at Bevmo. Good for a red.

I picked some up as well, on my way back from Vegas. A nice bite for a red. My after work brew tonight is a Pintail Ale by Bridgeport, maybe I'll have a Cinder Cone a little later with my cigar.

It's either that or the Chocolate Stout from Rogue. Has anyone tried that one?

Some quick picks of the day:

Amber:
Abita Amber
Abita Turbo Dog

Can you get Abita Amber out here? I was just in New Orleans for 2 weeks and that's all we drank. It is very smooth.

There was only 150 promo "grog" made and I paid 90 bucks to get it.

Grog sucks but every Monkey Island fan needs one. Or at least 149 others need one.
