The Trade Deadline Thread

I'm not about to throw in the towel on the season, adding ammunition in the flavor of VA and Kempe's LTIR while not wrecking next years cap is going to take assets that I'm not sure Blake has. The first name on anyones list to get an actual impact performer if they are available as a rental would be Guentzal. What on earth could the penguins want from the Kings to make that happen?
Yep, might have more cap space
Cap space to do what exactly, if the idea is to go get this years Ben Chariot....Well you might want to look at the actual complexion of this team.

Big strapping bodies.

I personally do not have much confidence in Blake’s judgment at this point. This team is not winning the cup, nor that likely to get past the first round of the playoffs (assuming they make it), so if I am ownership, I am telling him he cannot mortgage more assets in a desperation trade. He swung for the fences with the PLD trade and signing and, in my opinion, set the franchise back several years in so doing. Just imagine how different things would look if we had another center with similar production but paying them something along the lines of $4-$5MM with shorter term. The team would not have been in constant cap trouble this year, and would have a flexibility to resign people like Roy, and/or to go into the market and get an impact player. All of this is ignoring the assets that he gave up to get PLD in the first place…

Kempe Dominos Begin to Fall

From what we’ve been able to gather, Kempe is returning to Los Angeles for further evaluation later this afternoon. Like many of the other injuries suffered by Kings players of late, detailed imaging is required before understanding the extent of the injury and any subsequent timeline for a return. At the very least, he won’t be playing in Calgary. Beyond that, well, it’s not sounding very promising. Let’s wait for the official word, though, before going down that path.

This x1000. Imagine if we traded for Adam Lowry instead of PLD. A guy 3rd line guy who hits a bunch. Instead Blake traded a bunch and capped us out. We always suspected this year would be a transition year with Dollar Tree goaltending before the Kings could spend real money in 2024-25. This team isn't getting past Colorado, Dallas, and Vegas so why would we mortgage the future?

Did you say the same thing in 2012?

I don’t think one player is going to make a difference the way this team has been playing so if I’m Blake I’m saving my assets for the off-season as this team clearly needs to be re-figured. He’s going to need them to change up this mess he has made, if he’s still around by then.

It's clear his job is on the line, as it should be. He took his shot and this is what we have.
Upper mgmt better have him in handcuffs as far as picks & prospects going out are concerned.
Let him trade Roy, Viktor as ufa's.

He has proven his judgement is not to be trusted.
Let the new regime re-work this roster in the off season.

Victor is on LTIR, can't be traded. But yes, if things continue the way the are, trading Roy is a possibility. If Blake is fired this summer, I would imagine everyone (including Kopitar and Doughty) over 27/28 is eligible for trade. LIke the Blackhawks are finally doing, it's time to let go of the past, however glorious it was, and make the moves to make this team competitive in the future. Byfield, Clarke are part of the new core. Build from there.

Trade PLD.
It is so frustrating watching him play so poorly. I just don't get why anyone thinks he's worth 8.5 Million, or even half that. If he's un tradable, he needs to be bought out.

If the team cr@ps the bed before TD and Kempe's injury is a long term one, then trade Roy, Kaliyev, Lewis and Lizotte for picks and prospects.

Resign VA at a discount if possible, maybe a 1 year bridge deal. Resign QB to a team friendly bridge contract, too.
Sign a good, tough, experienced UFA bottom 6 center who is a known leader, and a LD3 to bridge deals (overpay if necessary) to round up the "core". Find a bottom 3 forward bruiser. And I mean bruiser. Give a good look to Lee and Helenius at camp.
Trade Fiala (or PLD?) at the draft if a good deal can be found. Long term, considering cap increases, their contracts are basically 6-7m/year. Peanuts.

QB - Kopi - Kempe
Moore - Danault - VA
PLD/Fiala - Turcotte - Laferriere
Big strapping body - UFA - Big strapping body
(JAD)

Mikey - DD
Gavi - Clarke
LD3 UFA - Spence
(Englund)

Keep the goalie situation as is, meaning resign current duo at a minimum price and if Portillo shows up big in camp, give him a chance and if he holds his own, one of Rittich/Talbot gets sent down eventually.

Basically the plan is called "a cheap hail mary with a retool one flip of a switch away".

This way, the Kings "recycle" players that are not here to stay for some prospect pool refillband at the same time don't mortgage the future for some hopeless "all in" efforts.

Get a new HC (if this year Hiller doesn't show any hope).

If it doesn't work next season, sell whatever has no long term value at the next deadline (Gavi, VA) and "start over" since the old core will be gone soon and be definitely too old to be relevant anymore. Trade for some young but NHL ready talent at the draft to fill out the roster, suck for 1 year and then come out guns blazing (hopefully) in 2.5 years time from now. Minimum painful suckage, give QB the keys to this team and hope for the best.

Barring a miracle turnaround, the PLD trade will define Blake's tenure as a GM, and may very well go down as the worst trade in the history of the franchise.

The morning I heard about the trade I thought it was either a bad joke or an even worse typo.

And seriously, what in the blue f*ck was Blake thinking? Giving up all THAT for THIS guy.

Wow.

I don't know who we should trade for or who we should trade. But I have a question. Why do we have no right shot forwards for the power play? We've gone on for 3 years or so about how we have so many right shot D men & not enough lefties and how unbalanced it makes our defense. So we go into this season with just 1 righty in Arvidsson, who's been injured most of the year. And our power play sucks because of that. We could use Laferriere as a temporary solution. But I think if we were going to try to trade for something it would be that. And it wouldn't be just for this season. It's probably not as easy as I'm making it out to be, but it's just a thought.

Also I'm not suggesting, just saying that starting next season, July 1st I assume, that PLD has a No Move clause for 4 seasons. After that it's a 15, then 10 team No Trade clause. If Blake wants to get out of this contract he needs to act quickly. Otherwise he can buy him out for $1,130,952 until 2037-38. And if we do stick with him can we trust he's going to be a dominant player game in & game out for 7 more years? He gets PP time but doesn't score & he can't be trusted to be on the PK. That's not worth $8.5 Million a year. It sucks because from the coaching change up until these last 2 games he's shown that he could dominate on the ice when he wants to.
