The Trade Deadline Thread

If QB or BC is moved I am done as well. Flake has already dealt 1st round picks Vilardi, Kupari, and Faber. I wouldn't think he is stupid enough to move a 4th one. I thought QB is the heir apparent to replace Kopitar and BC to replace Doughty. The Kings need scoring right now. Zero 5 on 5 goals in the past 6 periods doesn't equal getting a top pairing left handed defenseman. Besides, isn't that Mikey's role?
I don't see them trading either of them as they will be a big part of the foundation this team builds upon over the next 15 years. Spence, Kaliyev, Grundstron, Lizzo, Roy...I could easily see any of them being moved as part of a package. That being said, I don't thing Rob will do much.

It is interesting to see different perspectives in the media. Some saying the Kings will go after a winger while others saying their focus will be Dman.

They need both... not to mention a true #1 goalie. My instinct is that Rob will try to find a right shot forward and hope Mikie comes back before the playoffs. I don't think we will see a solution to the goalie problem until this summer.

Oh, I know they need all of the above but always interesting to hear the different mouthpieces say that the Kings prioritizing A while the other says they are prioritizing B. I don't know that they have the assets to get everything they need so I do wonder if they had to choose one, which would be Rob's priority.

John Gibson wouldn’t even need to move if he accepts a trade to the Kings…

I think it has to be a right shot forward. Before Fiala got hot, the #1 PP had become atrocious. DD's shot is too random to be the right-handed finisher in that group.

But if they put Mikey on LTIR (or worse), everything changes.

Do you think Gibby has anything left in the tank? Could he be rejuvenated if he were traded? All those years with a loser wear you down.
We’ve already got the goalie whisperers on the payroll. If they give the green light I’d take him on a sizeable discount.

It might have already been discussed, but Calgary's LD Noah Hanifin is in the last year of his contract. They trade him by March 8th, they'll get something for him, or he signs with someone else in the off season and they get, to quote Matt Foley, "Jack Squat!" At just under $5M AAV, it's great value. Then again, he might only be a rental for the remainder of the season if he doesn't re-sign with the Kings in the off season, or a trade and extend deal.

Ducks will be retaining 2MM per season. 🤝

Tough to find a better deal than 3 years of Gibson at 4.4MM
That definitely helps. I wonder what the Ducks would want for him however. I remember a season or two ago when Gibson allegedly asked for a trade they wanted something crazy like multiple 1st round picks / prospects.

I think Gibson is still good and has the potentially to become very good again, but we really need to hold on to our 1st round picks for awhile and restock the cupboards. Gibson for our 1st in the upcoming draft w/ the Ducks retaining $2m of the cap hit is probably the maximum I'd go for him.

Doubt the Ducks would want to trade him to the cross town rival though.

I think the Ducks are much more concerned about taking their next steps in the build/rebuild than potentially making the Kings a bit better. I say potentially because Gibson has been pretty bad for several seasons now. Gibson does nothing for them because he’s clearly unhappy and he’s a few years too old to be part of whatever Carlsson leads them to.

Ducks can turn the page on Gibson, pick up a prospect or two and free up the net for either a young netminder or a cheap bridge to the future.

I think there’s a deal that works for both sides. Not a perfect matchup but it could work.

I think you greatly underestimate him...
