Who will next year's goalie be ?

I would give Copley another shot depending on who is available. He got a raw deal in the playoffs.

Yeah. The year of the raw deal for Kings goalies. Should have played. No way I resign Korpisalo.

Was Korpi "exposed"? Or was it maybe something else? I wouldn't mind giving him another chance.

I mean yeah, the stats are right there. Exposed. You could see it start to click in game 4 for the Oilers regarding shooting position.

I think they’ll try to resign Korpisalo but I don’t think they’re going to move any salary to do it. So if it’s under $2 million that’s what it is & he’ll either take it or not. If he doesn’t resign then I’m not sure who they go after. Hellebuyck would be great but we’d have to give up salary to get him. Vegas had extra goalies. I think Calgary has an extra goalie. Plus all the UFA’s. But what I wonder is, unless we get a legitimate #1 who can play 50-60 games, why not have a goalie tandem with Copley & whoever like we did with him & Korpisalo last year? It seemed to work. Which then leads to why didn’t they continue the tandem into the playoffs? They took something that was working & abandoned it. And the only reason I could see is that starting 1 goalie is how it’s always been done.
After they sign Vilardi, Kupari, and Bjornfot, they have far less than 2 million left. Trade has to happen to sign any goalie.

I am expecting the Kings will be bringing back most of the team we ended with last year there will be a lot of players stuck again in Ontario that we will need to trade or risk losing. So I do expect they will package several of them for a front line goalie like Hellebuyck giving up enough for a team to retain salary to allow it to work.

im going to go with defense and PK got exposed, myself. But that’s just my humble opinion.

Yeah the defense shouldn't have let them shoot from the circle. Because it was going to go in every time. Listen, the defense wasn't great and in the end, especially in the blown 3-0 lead, everyone takes some responsibility. I'm not even saying Korpisalo had to make us win the series. I'm saying he was part of the problem and let in key goals that were stoppable. I can live with Quick's performance in game seven last year. He gave us everything he had and we lost. But because of his performance we could have won the game. Are you people honestly telling me Korpisalo did the same in game 6 or in OT against Hyman? His play in the last couple of games was deflating. Every great effort we gave was ended with an average play by Mr. 80 saves in a game. The lack of rumours of us finding ways to re-sign him makes me hope Blake and the rest saw what I saw - an over-rated goalie who folded under pressure.

I’d say the lack of rumors of re-signing Korpi was a) getting a solid, stay at home defenseman who could play 20+ minutes a game was the more immediate need, and b) lack of cap space to get both Korpi and Gavrikov under contract. They knew they could only get one, and addressed the greater deficiency.

I do not think we should out all the onus on Korpi, but he is not the guy. I still think Copley should have played against Edmonton because he absolutely deserved it.

I cannot imagine Korpi staying considering who we have to resign. They have to make a trade for somebody who will steal games for the team.

I said onus.

they were gettin exposed all year. Still one of the guys got fastest 20 wins in Kings history, yet the other one started. But that's a different issue.

Post game 3 korpi looked like beach ball cloutier out there. shoot from high circle 1v1, no screen. done. saw no fight in that dude. it don't matter anyhow now.

is it october yet. summer is brutal here :D they got these bugs comin out the woodwork that shouldnt exist.

Who do you guys think will be our starting goalie next year?

I'm unsure if Korpisalo will be back? I think he was exposed big time, shooting high etc

Do you think Copley will get the nod or another free agent? Jarri? A trade for someone like Hellabuck?

Curious of your thoughts...

Great to see everyone back, I missed LGK and all of you ! HF boards sucks lol

Go Kings Go!
I don't know who it will be, but I certainly want to see Copley get a chance to be the starter. I didn't understand why he didn't get the opportunity to carry us through the playoffs, after he saved our regular season.

As for playing Korpi in the playoffs. I think it also had to do with figuring out what kind of a player he was. They needed those 6 games to determine what to do this year. Had they split the starts again and lost that series in 5-6 games do they have a good enough sense of Korpi's play to sign him for next year? If Korpi carried the Kings to a victory in that series and beyond we would not be looking for a goalie, rather trying to figure out how to afford Korpi.

I don't believe for a second that they played him just to find out. They played him because they thought he was the guy that would help them win...you clearly play what you think is your best goalie.

I really don’t believe it matters. With this team as it is right now, no goaltender is going to win a series against a team like Edmonton without players that can grind and yet have some skill. Just my thoughts as the resident expert.

Exactly. You can't be the worst PK team in the playoffs and expect to make second round, not even with the best goalie. Work on PK and watch Korpisalo's stats improve.

Neither do I, and I did not say that.
