All Things:Fx

I must be a baby cause that first episode of AHS scared the bejeezus out of me.

Even if it did go a little blair witch at the end.

I was watching at work...lights were off. When the motion sensor light behind me went off inexplicably I almost had to cleanup on aisle 3. I thought it was very different from all the seasons so far. All the other seasons were so high concept that making them weird took ridiculous jumps and seemed to strain by the middle episodes. By starting out small and focused, they allow themselves the room to stretch without having to go to the extravagant lengths of seasons past. The dramatic reenactment device already makes it feel like a different show.

Now, is the episode next week going to continue this story? I almost feel like this could've been a standalone twilight zone-ish episode. Aside from the fact we infer they all survived if they're living to tell the documentary afterwards.

And yes I had to turn the lights on too.

Has anybody been watching Atlanta?

I have and it's pretty good so far. Some dry humor.

anyone still watching the strain?

(spoiler alerts)

First I was like "holy s*** they killed the master!". then I'm like "that was too easy". A freaking red worm?
I love so many of the characters on this show, but at times it seems to go in circles across multiple episodes. I bet if it was 8 episode seasons on netflix **** would go down quickly!

still watching. And yeah, it treads a LOT of water. No real momentum. That being said, I like the characters enough to keep watching. Especially the comedy team of Fet/Setrakian. But yeah, I think GDT has disassociated from it, probably due to the padding. It barely resembles the books at this point, which is fine.

Absolutely. Donald Glover is able to express that optimism in the face of despair type of poignancy. Paper Boi has some layers running underneath and not sure if Darius is insane, moron or genius. Then there's that undercurrent of how far to go in holding onto your dreams when the world is telling you that your obligations are elsewhere.

Ryan Murphy Is Teasing A Huge ‘American Horror Story’ Twist That Will Be This Season’s Game Changer
http://uproxx.com/tv/american-horror-story-season-six-twist/

We’re only two episodes in to American Horror Story: My Roanoke Nightmare, and the conceit of the reality-style investigation series gimmick is already wearing a little thin, as I mentioned in my recap earlier. I don’t need a talking head interview of Andre Holland to tell me how messed up this crap is, over and over again. I’m watching! I know it is!

In an interview with EW that published today, however, Ryan Murphy assures us that there is a method to his madness, and that “the thing that you think you’re watching is not what you’re watching.” Episode six apparently contains a twist so huge that it’s gonna turn this whole season on its ear, so much so that the mysterious theme of the season was supposedly only the first part of the surprise.

“Even though the subject matter has gotten out, it’s irrelevant because nobody gets what we’re doing,” says co-creator Brad Falchuk. “No matter what you think it is, it’s not that. Then, episode 6 comes and you’re like, ‘Wait! What happened?’”

Adds Murphy, “It’s a hat on a hat on a hat on a hat that we’ve had to protect.” While Murphy thinks the twist separates the season into two halves, Falchuk considers it three unique stories. He says, “It’s like [episodes] 1-5, 6-9, and 10 is its own thing.”

Ok. First off. This reviewer can suck it. In FINALLY focusing on story instead of concept, this season has genuinely been scary for the first time in the series history. I KNOW that Ryan Murphy cannot help himself and style will eventually overcome substance, but until then I am hooked. I truly hope they can maintain the tension, and perhaps even improve on it...but nothing so far has shown that this crew is capable of that. Until then though...I'm all in.
