Decision day - another bust!
You just knew it was going to happen especially against Houston. Those guys on the road have3 the G's number.
Houston kept Pec quiet for most of the night.
Paintsil is REALLY bad with the ball at his feet on one-on-ones. Turns it over nearly every time.
Paintsil REALLY gets in his own head. After his goal was called off, he really went off the rails.
Set pieces......Set pieces......Set pieces:
We never score from them.
We often, all to often get scored on them.
WHY?
Defending is still average at best. Really needs upgrading in the offseason.
Reus looked like a guy who has not played in weeks.
Tired, out of sync. I would have liked to have seen coming off the bench against tired legs.
.....however this was not possible with Delgado's suspension, and the downward spiral of Brugman.
Brugman is a shell of his old self.
Upsides:
2nd in the West. I bet nobody thought that would happen at the beginning of the season.
Not playing on turf in the playoffs, and the bracket the G's are in is a better fit for them.
Onward. G's up!

I don't think Joseph is "overpaid".
IMHO it's more of a case that he is pretty good, but man, this guy has the ability to get +15 goals & +10 Assists.....but he is streaky, and gets in his own head. Would love to see him play at his full potential.
I think what we saw at the beginning of the season was what we were expecting for the entire season, but injuries, etc. Dude missed 5-6 matches due to injury.
Also, once Pec came into form, and Nelson took over at LB, the G's played quite a bet less to Paintsil, and more to Pec.
I have my issues with his performances, not gonna lie, but I think/hope his upside for next season is worth the $$$.

I think that's my point. For that money I want it the whole season. If he plays to his potential we're lethal.

Blame Nelson then?

Look at the heatmaps for a good last half of the season, the attack heavily favors Pec's side.
Is it because Pec is better? Sure?
Is it because (more offensive minded) Aude is out and (more defensive minded) Nelson has been in on LB? Sure?
Ricky playing more on Pec's side than Paintsil's? Sure?
Then add in Paintsil's injury and missing 5-6 matches....then we arrive at where we are.
I would love to see them play Joseph MUCH more in transition. He's lethal.
In the possession run of play, give it to Pec, because Paintsil is not very good one on one.
This may also be on Vanney not being able to figure out how to get Paintsil into the attack and play to his strengths.
I'm like you, in that I think there is more there from him.
It just needs to be unlocked.
It's playoff time....hoping Paintsil catches fire!

Reus off the bench was magical. No need to start him. He is better off the bench.

Scoring on a set piece?!?!? Where did this team come from?
Sure, Rapids were without 2 significant players, but a 5-0 smack down at the Digs is quite a statement.
Rapids got only one shot, and not even on target.
Speaking of Paintsil, he had a real good game...sure not on the scoresheet, but boy did he look like he was invested in the match.
Onward to play a mile high and close this one out!

I noticed it on Painstil. His just being active and moving around quickly created other opportunities and space for the other guys. More of that please.
I wonder if that was due to John Nelson playing waaaaay more offensively and forward than he normally does. He was playing more like Aude, and that helped Joseph.
...and not to mention Nelson's goal!!!! That was pretty spectacular.

Too bad MLS can’t figure out home and away playoff format with aggregate.

Rapids were “easy”
Minnesota or RSL will be a bit more of a challenge, but the G’s have to be this good in EVERY match from here on out. Cannot come out flat.

Rumor is the game is Saturday the 23rd at 1:00 but that is a very strong rumor. I was hoping for the 24th. We'll see. Probably won't know for sure until next week's games are done.
I will laugh hard if Miami gets bounced because I selfishly want MLS Cup in LA if we get that far (big if). but no way it's happening.
