The Avengers/Marvel movies

come on, nobody?!?!?!?!

Darby? Surely you can give me some insight here. Not trying to tweak you. Just trying to start an interesting conversation. MMMcammy, Mondo Blando?

I am going to see the movie Friday, then I will decide if I like it or not.

I couldn't care less how anybody feels about a movie they haven't seen. I don't care how anybody feels about food they haven't eaten, music they haven't heard, a car they haven't driven. That's a general principal and not directed to you.

What I will ask of you specifically is why you think people would be interested in reading or discussing why you don't want to see it? I mean, that's entirely at your discretion, and I am sure that folks who will or are interested in seeing it will come here and comment about it.

It's all fun and games for Carol Danvers until/unless Disney/Marvel gets the X-Men rights back.

Look, I am not necessarily narcissistic. I didn't think people gave a **** about why I was or wasn't seeing. I presented the details of my background simply to establish where I was coming from. AS I HAVE SAID...I have seen a twitter ****storm of reaction vs overreaction. This USED to be an interesting place to have a conversation. I thought I would import that into this forum and maybe get some rational conversation. But I have one person using previous statements in an entirely unrelated forum to create a logarithm for my boorish behavior. I had another friend also turn it into a personal issue and get ready to gimme a MAGA hat. Another person, who I have had issues with...was actually very kind and sort of got what I was trying to start. Now you...assume that it was a plea for a discussion about me. I am more that willing to accept my part of the blame. Maybe I misspoke/used the wrong tone/overreached...whatever.

I will really plain wrap it for all of you.

A piece on Brie Larson's reaction and the results

which carried on to a flood of angry women(justifiably) IN MY OPINION going too far in the opposite direction reaction wise. I DO NOT condone the bull**** that started the whole thing. But I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD AN OPINION regarding the whole brouhaha. I presented my resume and , with the whole picture presented...I asked the basic question...

IS IT FAIR FOR THE VICTIMS(ok SmytheKing) to fight a pop gun with a 3 stage assault on anyone with an xtra chromosome. I asked if that wave of instant denial of credibility by a MALE critic was acceptable.

Captain Marvel Is Fun and Most of the Negative Reviews Are Written by Men … Shocking

So. I apologize if you feel I made this about me. I apologize if I wasn't clear. And mostly, I apologize if I have offended in any way. I merely wanted to ask a question and inadvertently must have made it about me.

Now. Anyone have any thoughts or do I have to hear more about me, which frankly I was pretty bored of a few 100 paragraphs ago.

This all reads as a hand-delivered invitation to a country estate for a weekend of leaving you alone.

Dude, it's just a movie. And it's just Twitter. Neither is anything, really.

I thought Black Panther, apart from a brilliant Andy Serkis turn, was kind of run of the mill movie. But it meant something special to people in a way that I couldn't relate. Yeah, people who shouldn't matter to anyone are conjecting pretty damn loudly that this movie will mean the same thing to little girls who may be longing to see themselves as heroes.

Really, who cares?

well see, I guess I care. And again...it was subtle, but shade nonetheless. Whatever. I have a thick skin.

I thought it was worth discussing.
I was wrong.

Saw this reponse from a friend in my twitter timeline , About sums it up for me
"Wow! The Captain Marvel trailer proves once again that Marvel is at the forefront of making movies I might watch on a plane in four years"

I don't know how much of that was snark but honest to God that's how I watch all my marvel movies. I finally just caught up to current watchng ant man and wasp on this last trip. I'm kinda bummed that for the flight back I don't have a few movies to binge on. These are all great time killers and good fun.

No spoilers, but it was mildly disappointing and a step down from the others movies in the MCU, closest to The Dark World.

There is a choice made to structure the story in a manner that deflates all of key emotional scenes by having almost all of the character development hidden from both the lead and audience as slowly and occasionally partially revealed memories. For 3/4s of the movie not even the hero knows why we should root or care for her.

I think a lot of the emotionless type criticisms leveled at Larson are more to blame on the structure than her performance. She only knows frustration during most of the scenes, and the notes she hits are appropriate given the circumstances. She just wasn't given enough opportunity to be related to until the Rambeau's show up.

Anyway, lots of plot points to discuss once folks are caught up.

Is it fair to say that the movie is better suited as an accompaniment to the endgame plot instead of a standalone origin?
Just trying to get a sense of the purpose behind the structure as you saw it. I have not seen the movie yet but I plan to see it before endgame regardless.

No, it is it's own movie for sure. I have no doubt that her character will be better received in Endgame under the Russo's.

Once we can talk plot points, there is one thing that really pissed me off because it changes the way a character is perceived.

CM was in the good half of the MCU for me. Yes, some issues popped up or some weird choices were made, but nothing IMHO to make it unwatchable. A fun diversion at the theater, probably around a 4/5 for me.

My MCU 'bad half' includes IM2 & IM3. CA CW. AOE. GOTG2. DS. And I'm sure I missed a few. My Top pick is still Winter Soldier.

That's ok. 2014 was the original's release date so...almost the 10 year anniversary.

Ok. I get it. I do. Officially been back 1 day and I am inundating you with it. It's been a tough few months. I lost faith so many times. And the whole thing left a bad taste that spoiled my enjoyment of all the geek things I loved. Disney, superhero flicks, LGK...didn't get Comicon tix(first time in 10+years) and I questioned whether it was time to 'grow-up'. I feel restored now...and re-invigorated. So please indulge the victory lap. I firmly believe James Gunn is a good man, and the Guardians flicks(especially 2) have such a special place in my heart. So...thank you for your time.

I will retire my signature now, promise!
