The Trade Deadline Thread

One of the consequences of Byfield getting better is that now there are a bunch of crackpot trade proposals of what fans think their team should give up to get him, lol. And these bounties aren't even as good as 'Cammalleri and a third.'

I just wanted to dust that phrase off. I am bored. But my point stands. :mhihi: :wine:

These next 3 games could go a long ways in not only if the Kings make the playoffs, but if they are buyers/sellers at the trade deadline. Not many options to be buyers unless they have some salary going the other way or their partner takes on some of the salary. I am sure Arvidsson being on LTIR will factor into it as well. Should be interesting to see how it shakes out between now and March 8.

This is according to NHL Rumors Daily.

I love a good rumor around the trade deadline but this one seems beyond far fetched.

1. Hanifin will require a long term contract this summer. He’s believed to be asking for over 7MM a year.

2. A trade for a 27 year old 1st pairing D man would require more assets than the Kings currently have available unless you’re willing to move Byfield or Clarke. If a 21 year old QB is traded I’m done as a Kings fan. Clarke makes a bit more sense if the organization doesn’t think he has the tools to be a 1st pair d-man, I suppose.

Generally I hate the idea of trading a young cheap player for a win now 40 point d-man but Hanifin is a legitimate 1st pairing defenseman that you can build around for the next 8 years.

If QB or BC is moved I am done as well. Flake has already dealt 1st round picks Vilardi, Kupari, and Faber. I wouldn't think he is stupid enough to move a 4th one. I thought QB is the heir apparent to replace Kopitar and BC to replace Doughty. The Kings need scoring right now. Zero 5 on 5 goals in the past 6 periods doesn't equal getting a top pairing left handed defenseman. Besides, isn't that Mikey's role?

What I find interesting about this rumor is this is the 2nd top pairing left shot d-man the Kings have been linked to this trade season. The other being Jakob Chychrun… again. Does that mean anything on its face value? Probably not but if there’s some smoke there maybe the Kings don’t see Anderson as the long term fixture on the top pairing and maybe they’re looking for an upgrade.

It could also mean the team doesn’t see a long term fit with Gavrikov, who needs an extension after next season.

I see Eklund has a new site.

Tarasenko’s game is the ideal fit for the Kings needs but the cost to acquire him will be more than the team can offer unless Ottawa really loves Kaliyev. I would prefer not to sell low on Kaliyev because he’s young and cheap but if the Sens happen to really love his potential maybe a deal can be worked out. I don’t think Blake can afford to give up much more than Kaliyev and a mid round pick.
